OK, Im considering getting a Rollei 35. But there are so many models available, S,SE,T,TE etc.....
Then theres the made in Singapore and made in Germany versions. Anyone got any ideas on the differences between the different models ? Reccomendations on which version to get ? Many thanks ! |

The 35 and 35T, 35TE have the 40mm f3.5 Tessar lenses. There was a limited run of 35S models with S-xenars. Check out this site for more info. http://johnlind.tripod.com/rollei/rolleiframe.html |

IMHO the best practical model is the Rollei 35S, the one with the metering on top of the camera. Also the lastest new version of the Rollei Classic adopt the same approach rather than the Rollei 35SE approach. U can consider the 35T if u like Tessar design instead of the Sonnar design.

i have the 35S.. the singapore and the german versions are essentially the same thing. plus it gives me a kick to see the made in singapore sign on the camera. a technical achievement we can actually produce such a mechanical wonder. Metering is off with an alkaline battery so try to get a zinc air hearing aid battery or a criscam adaptor. many people say the 35SE's LED lights are a pain to use because they are so bright and they do not show you exactly how much you are under or overexposing for exposure compensation so i suggest the 35S as the best rollei 35 camera you can get other than the newer versions with sight modifications.

Singapore or German Version are the same.
I use to have 35S, 35SE & 35T. I think you can find tons of informations about Rollei 35. I personally like 35SE cause the electronic Metering. But still be careful, these are pretty old cameras, their light sensor are not that sensitive. Mostly are good & accurate for out-door day-lightings. In-door lightings they could be "off" by 1~2 stops, depending on the age of the sensor. They also have strong mechanical. |

It depends if you want buy it as a collector or use it. For collection the German models are more sought after. I have almost all models and for practical use prefer a Rollei 35 LED (Singapore). Exposure setting is faster (can be done while looking through the viewfinder), it is lighter than the full metal models. The PX27 5.6V battery for the Rollei 35LED (and a few other Rollei 35 types) is replaced by a 6.0V S27PX silver oxide battery which has constant voltage. Most people go for the Tessar and Sonnar lenses but I've found the Triotar lens makes razor sharp pictures too and the Rollei 35 LEDS are underestimated (i.e. relatively cheap). Tip: check one of the free online manuals to see the differences between the models (Mike Butkus has a Rollei35 LED manual for download on his site).

I like the Tessar lenses over the Sonnar. Sharper, more old school charm.

I had a Rollei 35 which made in Singapore. It has rollei made tessar lens. It is a very small and compact camera with high quality lens. Nice to use except it does not have rangefinder for focusing. Good for snapshot.
