Need Recommendations

Need some help from the Nikon Pro here, Just got my D80, and i need a lens that will give me extensive shallow depth of field. What would u guys recommend?

Have been looking at 50mm F1.8, is it good?

For what kind of distance? The closer you focus, the shallower will be the DoF. The 50/1.8 is good for the money.

That's one of the cheapest option. You can try other fast lenses like, 50 f1.4, 85 f1.4, etc... Also there are MF options like the Noct Nikkor, f1.2

Or even PC-Micro Nikkor 85/2.8. You can alter the plane of focus such that the 'DoF' appears razor thin. Otherwise can try lensbaby.

Thanx guys for all the help, I cant seem to be able to find 85mm f1.4 on the Nikon website. And sorry how to adjust the plane of focus such that it appears razor thin?

You can do it only with a tilt lens like the PC-Micro Nikkor 85/2.8 or the lensbaby using scheimpflug principles.

Nikon 85mm F/1.4D no horse run! @ F/1.4, the eye lashes are tack sharp and anything after the face a nice blur and bokeh is excellent!
