What exactly do you want to know?

Well... it works. Haha. The focusing is a little slower on the D70 body as compared to a higher end body, which of course is to be expected...

The lens itself is fantastic. it should deliver usable pics at wide open apertures with no trouble at all.

My only complaint when paired with the D70? D70 body too light. So the overall balance doesn't feel quite right to me. But... its just a minor complaint. And some people don't mind this.

If you haven't bought it yet, i suggest you go down to the shops to try it out. Bring a laptop along too. That tiny D70 screen isn't going to be able to show you much.

This lens will suffer from back-focus problem when shooting at 185-200mm.

Can you please enlightened me on what do you mean by back-focus. How can I test this out as I am also interested in this lense as well. In general, in your opinion how do you rate this lense? Thanks.

This lens tends to focus slightly back at the distance where it supposed to focus at, e.g (maybe one or two centimeters). This is an known issue on several DSLR bodies especially D70. Other ranges 80-180mm the lens is sharp wide open (f2.8). At f4 the lens is almost comparable to prime lens and at f8 it has the sharpness of prime lens. The color rendition is punchy and vibrant compare to my sigma 70-300 APO DG.

Thanks for your info, is this only on D70?. I will try it on my D200.

This is definitely lens issue, I'm surprise that Nikon still not fix the problem and selling it in the market.

I think its a great lens. So far, I havent had problem using it throughout the range at f2.8. Except I think I observe softness at 185-200mm...no real test but seems softer. Anyway, nothing post processing with some sharpening cant solve. Why worry so much. =) For the price and the excellent optics, unless you need the VR, this is the lens to go for. Am using D70s and just gotten this lens. I agree with the weight issue. I am still not used to it, tends to wield the body and not the lens (as previous lens are all quite light). However, the weight of this lens makes it good for handling.

At 200mm, stop it down to f/4 or f/5.6 it should perform better. Problem with digital is that people get to pixel peep and immediately know that the lens is not as sharp. On film/slide, you will only know it when you blow it up. But once it's blown up, you won't look at it so closely anyway, so the slight softness is tolerable.

The one lens that you have mention is AF-S 80-200 F2.8.
The AF-D 80-200 F2.8 or can be know as 2-touch is still in production.

I think so too. hehe. Am pretty contented with my D70s for now. A D200 would be good but unnecessary for me at this stage. Learning to take better pics more crucial.

=p
