No... its over exposed. I don't use or own a strobe. Just Canon A610 and its own casing.

The 1st frogfish is light in colour..... inorder to have a close up, I must move my camera closer to it. The flash of my camera was way way tooo close. For the 2nd frogfish, which have a darker skin colour, i also uses the cameras own flash..... but I think not so bad due to it's darker colour.

Still.... I agree these photos are not in anyway good.

Exposure is acceptable. But your white balance is way off. I think can be easily be correct thou.

Also, althou you were low, i think you can get down even lower for better perspective/composition.

But still, a great subject to take photos of. Hope you enjoyed Lembeh.

Thxs... i did enjoy lembeh the most. And yes..... the white balance is truely way off. Don't have time to do any PS-ing..... just reduce size and post. Hope to be using my DSLR next trip..... hahaha..... but no $$$ to buy U/W casing.

Not a bad effort though I agree with Eudon that the composition could improve.

I think the WB can't be helped. There's a depth beyond which the red light is gone so there's nothing to "balance".

These would benefit so much from external strobe.

just my 2 cents worth ..

i think if you brought the camera closer, the colors will come out nicely. I still use my prosumer olympus 5050 (GASP!! .. yes, i am still using this antique haha..) and even without a strobe, the colors come out nicely.

don't worry, just keep shooting. It is still a good effort. We all have to start from somewhere mah.

Remember you are there to enjoy the diving (which i feel that sometimes people forget about it) and not the photography ya? If you get a few good pictures, then that's a bonus.

Cheers, happy bubbles and happy shooting!!!

I beg to defer on the easy to correct part for these photos.

The flash has already been fired. A portion of the froggie has retained the colours but not entire picture.

So correcting it has to be split into two parts, one that covers the colours that had not been retained, and the other, colours that had been retained.

I've not tried either of the post-processing techniques though, so, if anyone has a workflow to share, that will be great.

Actually, even with a DSLR, it doesn't mean it will give you good photos. It's combining the knowledge of how exposure works, colours, lighting and composition that will give you good photos.

So, in short, don't be disappointed if your DSLR doesn't give you the photos you want.

sharp but no color.. wasted..

lembeh is all about the weirdo colors u don't see anywhere else

don't waste money on a DsLR.. if you cannot shoot properly with a Compact.. You'll waste the whole trip struggling with a DSLR underwater

I think this website does a pretty good job of showing you how to do it ... for explanation, you probably need something else ...
