Was considering which L lens combination to get and came up with a comparison table. Hope this is useful to anyone who is also choosing...
![]() Most likely will go for 24-105/F4 and 70-200/F4 combination, assuming all L lens are good and balancing between coverage, weight and $... Anyone heard any rumor on replacement for 100-400? It's a ten years old lens... don't really want to buy it for its weight and push-pull type, but will miss the 400mm. ![]() |

Bought my 100-400 2-years back, and has gone on practically all my trips since.. Personally I don't think I'm bothered much about the weight.. I suffer for my art... either that or I'm a sucker for pain.. ![]() |

I think the 70-200f2.8L IS that you are referring to (since you mention it cost $2800)... then it should be 1470g and not 1310g.

I don't mind the weight in the bag, but I often find the weight on my hands (especially the fingers and wrist) a strain if I carry a combination of > 2.5kg for a hour of shooting... and sometimes you need a flash which adds another 400g. ![]() |

i like the way you analyse this - you must be an accountant or in finance... if not, at least a student of these fields...

Hi, I see that you have include 70-200 F4 IS lens? The IS does help quite a bit without tripod ...

Perhaps you could do a dollar per kg comparison and see which one gives you the most for your money's worth.

Quite a handy table, now all I need is the 1D Mk 3 and a 16-35 Mk 2 to complete my kit!

Calculate the P/E ratio of your gear.
At the moment... my gear P/E ratio is like x, as x approaches infinity. Almost a divide by zero error. horhor. |
