Default Canon S5 IS

Anyone bought this baby? How is it? Design looks the same as S2/S3. Might be able to use back the same accessories and Lens.

Currently, I am a happy user of S2 IS, I am thinking of selling away my S2IS for this.

BTW, is the Canon Video compression still as bad as S2? (Not quality isue, but space...)

And what is the price of S2 IS now if I wanna sell it??

I do believe the S5IS kills off the G7 pretty much...

But what about the S5IS features that can't match to the G7's? I really can't think of any big advantageous features that the G7 has. 10MP vs 8MP is not a big thing. If anything, I think S5IS has more attractive features than the G7 and at a cheaper price.

I dunno what Canon is up to, dwarfing their top of the line G series cameras. The S5IS is a "myseterious cam". It's like they cross the previous G series with the S3IS and then came out with a more beefy S5IS, which yes, I think will kill the G7.

Also, I think many have the misconception that bigger CCD means better image. That's true in general but you got to look at the resolution also. Big buffalos like the S5IS and other brands Panasonic, Sony, etc use 1/2.5" bcos they are below 10MP. With very few exceptions, most good cams of 10MP and more will have CCD of a larger size, 1/1.8" say. But that's bcos they need to squeeze more pixels on the sensor. The result is that it's not necessarily better than another smaller sensor with less resolution 8MP, 1/2.5" for eg.

I think this advantage is only a valid comparison if physical size is the same and pixel density varies. For instance, if one sensor of 1/2.5" has 6MP, and another has 8MP, then the noise level on the one with a lower pixel density will tend to be lower. However, if a sensor of 1/2.5" size has 8MP, and a sensor of 1/1.8" size has 10MP, then it's going to be (very) difficult to actually say which would produce cleaner photos.

Yah precisely.. That's what I was trying to say. But I've read in quite a few places that people are raving over cams with 1/1.8" and say go get it cos they are better than those with 1/2.5". You can't say that generally cos for the higher resolution cams, the bigger sensor needs to pack in more pixels.

One of the reasons is probably the 28-300mm f/2.8-4.9 lens.

but the S2/S3/S5 is f2.7-3.5
from 36 to 432mm

Reason I switched was for the 28mm and better low light capabilities.

Cheers...

But i still have the S2 with me...

Hello Bro,

Anyone here knows where to buy 2nd Canon S3 IS converter lens hood?
I'm looking for 1pc cause I got an A1 58mm lens to fix on it and some special effect lens too.

Canon center no longer sells this converter lens hood S$59/-
Cathy photo quoted me S$79/- wah this is daylight robbery.
Mustafa quoted me S$85/- even worst!

I bought a 58mm lens hood which cost $5 at Alan Photo, is just a clip on ones. Not like our original S3 type.

At full zoom 432mm, even with IS, and you shake, it still shows.... , but it is magnified.
