580 EX and Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP Di II XR problems?

In low light the 580Ex flash only fires like 1-2 sec after the shutter button is pressed.
Any reason for the lag? No issues with other canon lens.

Could be the AF trying to acquire focus.
