Default mecablitz 58 AF-1 digital

Anyone have mecablitz 58 AF-1 digital with their D200 or other Nikon body? how is this compare to SB 800? Really hate the quick relase mounting design on the SB 800, always give me problem.

That is what i was going to ask...
Got to know what's the root of the quick release for SB800 first before giving the constructive solutions.

after some time the quick relase & the locking pin become loosen & u will face contact problem on & off. All the new type of Nikon flash are design with quick relase now days.

Unlike the old style which is the screw on type, you can really tighten it & u dont have the problem even after a long time.

As I always send my flash in for service at Nikon, I was told many others also facing the same contact on & off problem with this new quick relase design.

If i'm not wrong, met flash (54mz4) is the screw on type and there is pin to lock down when is screwed/turn down. (same logic for SB800, turn the lever and pin goes down too)
i think the 58 should be the same.
Why not check out from the shop before buying on your camera?

Thats what I am looking for, the old screw in type rather than the quick relase deisgn.

Possible for anyone who have the mecablitz 58 AF-1 digital give some review? How is the performance comapre to the SB800? Anyone have idea how much it cost? If the price same or abit higher, I might consider to get one.

For reviews, check out other/overseas website.
For prices, ask from John 3:16 @ funan / Alan Photo @ SLS.
I've seen stocks in the shop but did not ask for price as i do not need it.

brought the flash at MS colour for $590 with GST.

Try out with the S5 pro. Not bad. I do like the old screw on mounting & no more loosen flash.

Built wise, the mecablitz 58 AF-1 digital do have a better built compare to SB800. I prefer the colour temp produce by metz.

The only draw back will be the menu system of this flash is not very good & user friendly.

This pict was taken using S5 Pro with mecablitz 58 AF-1 digital.

Nice... the flash gives a warm feel.

Yes.. the menu system on the 58 is a b*tch compared to its older model - 54MZ4 where you get a convenience of a jog dial (same like the 580 EX for canon) which makes things a little more easier and straightforward.
