After waiting for many moons, I finally managed to capture this moonflight. Not easy as need to consider many factors and timing or else the plane will be too low or too high.

Really Amazing. Guess a lot of studying on the timing and the position of the plane must be done before hand. Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
I supposed you need a fairly long exposure in order to capture the moon, how did you keep the plane stationary there? Is very high ISO sufficient for such exposures? Last edited by CT 3833; 2nd June 2007 at 10:15 PM. |

On the contrary, I had to bump up the ISO and up the shutter speed or else the plane will be blur. My settings for this shot are: ISO400, 1/125 and f9. I had made the test shots to get the moon correctly exposed then just wait for a plane to fly past. I was lucky this time, I guess.

Wouldn't it be easier to photoshop the plane in, since it appears as a silhouette anyway. Don't have to do oldskool all the time, you know.

WOW WOW great! :-)
As to PS or not, or whtr thats cheating or not, it is a question what was your intent and purpose in your pic. If it is for some design then it is perfectly ok to create an artiifical image as all design are artificial - something that was created albeit sometimes inspired by reality. But if it is a record of "reality" or something that actually happened, or purported as such, then of course to fake an image is cheating. However it depends on what "true reality" you are trying to convey. The reality may be an emotion, and a fake image may do a better job at that communication than something that actually occurred in time and space. An example of such a - negative - use is propaganda. If it is to test or exercise of your skills and planning and positioning and timing, maybe to promote yourself, then if fake, "the shame within me would eat me inside out" ... I can understand if your reasoning is about obtaining satisfation, that I can appreciate. Anyway, it is a nice image, just give my honest comment that it could have save a whole lot of time. Maybe it is not that easy to Photoshop... ../azul123 |

But azul...this is a hobby right? To be pursued for your self satisfaction...so where's the hurry and the need to rush somewhere in a car!? besides if you go walking then you can even smell the roses along the way...so leisurely & a nice feeling.
Take gardening for e.g. ....you can plant your seeds, water them everyday, feed plant nutrients and then watch the beautiful flowers bloom one day...ahhhh so nice. Or you could just go to the florist and buy those flowers...so easy! u know what i mean..?! Quick is not always good & real. But i do understand your point that things can be made to speeden up by modern day tools such as PS, cars, jets, etc. Of course. However the TS' intention was to take a nice pic in the real sense of it. Also look at the planning, execution, & behind the scenes effort gone into planning this shot...! If he's getting paid to do this, then sure he has wasted his time & effort...he could have done it on PS...but I am guessing from his description that he was toiling away with satisfaction as his main objective. So I was a bit disappointed with your comments as it kinda belittles the effort he has put in for this superb shot. just my POV on this...guess we all see different things from a different reference point...that is the beauty of life after all. Cheers.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. It was indeed a high for me when I checked the lcd after taking the shots. The feeling is one of a kind when I saw the jet right in the middle of the moon as I have had many others where the jet is just out of position, or only the front or back is in view. I didnt do that much research beyond finding out the moonrise times and then just waiting until the moon was at the correct height to be in the path of a jet. I am much better at photography than DI so for me, taking the short cut is not an option at all. In fact, I never even considered using PS in such a way for any of my pictures at all. I dont make any money of out photography so there is no pressure for me to get the shot other than the fact that I had dreamed of such a picture long ago and seeing it now makes all the waiting worth it.
