Camera cum Laptop Backpack

Hi all, i need opinions abt the backpacks that u guys used.
I/m planning to buy the above type of bags and i have 3 choices in mind at the moment.

-Tamrac Adv 9
-Crumpler Sinking Barge
-Crumpler Customary Barge.

My aim for the bag is to contain my camera (D50 with 18-200vr attached, SB800 and a wide angle lens),a day or two days set of clothing for travelling purpose, 1L of water bottle and a laptop.

I dun mind other brand of backpack but i lack knowledge in this field so i need some feedback.

Currently i have a 15in lcd screen laptop, but i/m not planning to bring that out as its slightly heavy.

My plan to buy camera cum laptop backpack is because incase if i need to bring a laptop along, i wun be caught bringing a extra bag just for laptop.

The sinking barge is large enough for your notebook already, but if you want the extra space, maybe the customary barge would be better.

A lowepro computrekker AW does it nicely for my 15" Macbook pro and a nikon D80 with lens and flash. Price wise is reasonable also.

i am using the customary barge with my 13inch mac, d50 with kit lens and 28-300, sigma flash, spare batts, holga and some filters. together with my bottle, writing materials, a book, umbrella and some other stuff like a power bar, specimen bags and containers and a spare t-shirt. the customary has 2 pockets in the velcro section so u can seperate ur laptop from ur writing papers and stuff which is a bonus for me as i carry around alot of paper.
A tight fit but it carries the weight and is comfortable on a long day.
the good (or bad depending on how u look at it) is that it looks the same with nothing inside, jus as big.

I got lowepro computrekker AW too, fits my powerbook 15 inch and d200, 2 lens 2 flash and some.

Kata 103 will also suit your needs but its a bit more rare

errr... why no one mentioned bagman backpack?

im using it . feels good. bought an oversized bag as it can fit my sis and parent's laptops (mine the smalles of all)

not that bad of a price. $88 at orient photo.

it fits :

28-70 f2.8 attached
18-55 kit
100-300mm vivitar lens
35-80mm lens
sb-24 flash
50mm prime
fuji s5500 compact

hehe.. i must be crazy to carry it all at 1 go...

the smaller version of my bag costs $78

There is a strap which can turn the domke into a backpack too

But you must admit that it looks kind of ugly.

You never mentioned where you are going. If its a safe enough place and you can take shelter in the rain etc, it doesnt matter what bagpack you use.. Else, you had better go for those packs that have waterproof coverings like the Lowepro Rover Plus AW. Go to Lowepro.com for a look for their All Weather series.

i think i did not explain myself clearly. thanks for the reminder. i wanted feedback abt how u guys feel when carrying the above mentioned bags as well as other backpack

In general, the Crumplers have the best shoulder padding and ergonomics. There are a handful of Lowepros that can give a good fight, and among them are the CompuRover AW, and Computrekker AW.

I agree Crumplers are the most solid backpacks to go for.. the thick paddings make you feel that your gears are well protected. One thing I dislike is that they are usually huge (in fact too huge to my liking) and heavy... so adds on weight to your gear... but ergonomics

Agreed. The internal compartments are so well-padded that they make Lowepro padding look flimsy.

If you want to put lots of stuff, camera, 2-4 lenses, flash, laptop size up to 17" and more. You could try the Lowepro CompuRover AW.

Took this for my Japan trip (hand held bag) and it work perfectly.

-ve points would be the size.
If you are a small frame person, then this may not be suitable but if you are >1.7m tall and bigger build, then this fits perfectly.

Have u guys use the cam cum laptop backpack as ur main backpack for a short trip take 3 days as a guideline.

I/m worrying that the backpack i/m interested in is unable to fit all the stuffs.
My stuff are d50 attached with 18-200vr, a wide angle lens, sb800, cleaning kit(blower, lenspen), filters(gnd, R72, CPL), dslr battery charger, 3days of clothes(inclu 1towel).

The backpack i.m interested in is crumpler sinking barge, currently there is a MO for crumpler bags at HWZ by the name of naiya. Price for sinking barge is 180, customary barge is 208.

Thanks for the advice and opinions.
