Default Travelling the US of A with the Nokia N95

Just came back from a trip to the States - had decided to not bring my DSLR along.

Following pictures were taken with my Nokia N95. Certainly it has a shuttle lag, slow start-up, among other issues. In some settings, the phone oversharpens. Zooming is not an option because digital zoom degrades the quality of the pictures.

But I can't bring a DSLR on business and this is where the portability of the Nokia N95 really comes into play. And in time, phone cameras will overcome some of the hurdles mentioned above - looking forward to such a time!

Post-processing done (of course).

Enjoy

nice post processing. I didn't really experimented with my N95 camera at all. inspire me to take some photos.

just curious, did you set any specific settings on the N95? like sharpness or contrast?

Thanks for sharing. Nicely done.

Using a handpone camera will allow photo taking in unlikely places. First, it's always with you when you need. There are many occasions when photo taking is not top priority. Second, others will not be too intiimidated.

Perhaps there will be a sub-forum in future to discuss handpone camera

Excellent photos.
A living proof that one does not need the most state-of-the-art equipment to take wonderful pictures.
Shows that equipment limitations can be overcome with a little bit of creativity!

My personal preference is to set the sharpness at its lowest setting. Never ever use the landscape mode - the phone oversharpens the pic to blotches. I think the previous firmware did a better job of sharpening the pictures than the new one. But the white balance is certainly an improvement.

While I'd prefer to use my own user-defined profile, sometimes not much of a choice - it's either using the camera default profile or losing the picture altogether. If the phone camera could default automatically to my user-defined profile, it'll certainly help.

if you ask me if I ever wished I had the speedy startup, negligible shutter lag, speedy auto-focus of the DSLR, you bet. I missed quite a few photo opportunities that way.

Or if I missed the flexibility of changing the lens to a WA or telephoto, you bet. I was stuck at 35mm all the way.

But sometimes lugging around a DSLR is not an option, and you're right - people seem to get less intimidated with a little phone camera. I just looked like a harmless tourist.

If I had a choice, I'll probably bring with me a digital rangefinder, but that's a story for another day.
