Hello ClubSnap!
Been a while since I shared an event shoot here. Just updated my site with photos from yesterday's Lexus Golf Classics 2007. I sold my 1DII beginning of this year and kept the 20D and it doesn't require anymore reminder from me that it's still a great body. Lenses used in the tournament were EF10-22mm, EF24-70mm and EF100-400mm. I'm shooting with just one body so switching between lenses were a tad inconvenient and standing under the ~33 deg C sun for total of 9 hours, on the green swamped with ants big and small isn't at all enjoyable. But I hope you'll enjoy the gallery Click to visit SHIMWORLD Blog Lexus Golf Classics 2007 Gallery I'm now recovering from sunburnt and itch from ant bites before the next event on May 31st. PICO has chosen me to shoot the upcoming official opening of a MinDef event in Brunei where His Majesty The Sultan is the Guest of Honour at http://www.bridex.org (no, it's not a bridal event) Hope you enjoy the gallery. All comments/questions and responses to my Blog are welcomed. Hello Jan, love the colours, post processing and angles... An event well captured. The 20d's quality is looking good. May I suggest sunblock and insect repellant?

I once used sunblock in a HSBC outdoor event and it was disastrous! Not only did the combination of sweat and sunblock create a sticky mess on the back of the camera, the sunblock from my forehead made its way to my eyes and I was in so much discomfort I couldn't shoot. And I had applied a non-greasy kind which did not help. As for insect repellant, that won't stop the ants from crawing up your shoes just enough to be a real nuisance! |

Picture compositions are taken beautifully. An excellent photojournalistic presentation. Love the picture of the man on the buggy with the driver. Should have put more emphasis on the Lexus car.

You're an engineer so I can see why you want to see more of the perfectly engineered Lexus vehicles. Hope you checked out my earlier gallery (A Perfect Moment) taken when Lexus came to town. Jan Last edited by janshim; 29th May 2007 at 01:17 PM. |

In the golf event, some of the composition really dun work, especially those that you shoot the butt of the golfer. From the Tee shots, I think you should be standing on the side that at the least, you need to have a view of the golfer's swing and face. Another example on the "chip" shot onto the putting green, wouldn't it be better if you are infront of the golfer? Since you are the main photographer I guess these will allow you to have all these great shots. Sorry not meant to be so critical on them but generally, I guess you could have deliver more from the given opportunity being a "Pro" in this event. Really love the all the features on the LS460L and GS300, especially the Mark Levinson logo, the 18" Spokes of the LS. I did notice that the headlight has blue tint, is that LS600? Or the LS 460 is Brunei has the blue tint? You are really lucky to be able to take pictures of new Lexus cars. Are you the official photographer for Lexus Brunei? Don |

Besides creative composition of the play, faces of these golfers are intentionally not shown as a matter of ethics and respect to Lexus VIPs and VVIPs owners and invitees from the public sector. While it's true, being official photographer means I have access to great shots, these great shots are not neceessarily the ones I like personally. Also, if i were to stand on either sides of the golfer taking a swing, vantage point it may be, I'd get my ass kicked by the marshall. Lastly, no apologies necessary. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I wish there are more people who are as observant to speak their mind. Thanks for visiting. |

The blue tint image belongs to the LS460's headlight. The LS600 hasn't been launched in Brunei yet. And, yes, I have been official photographer to Lexus and Toyota for two years now, specialising in their bigger events such as Annual Dinner and Dance, Lexus Golf Classic, Lexus Family Day. There is a media company who provides marketing and event services to Lexus where normally their in-house photographer provides the images needed for their advertorials such as Toyota Avanza Grand Draw occasionally I am engaged to cover the events for them too, indirectly. Thank you for visiting. Jan Shim www.janshim.com |

In the time I was composing my response above, I had completely forgotten to add my other golf galleries that may be of interest and appeal to your taste more than the Lexus one. Both the following galleries are Flash based (Autoviewer). http://www.shimworld.com/gallery/Golf/Pro/ HSBC Champions in Shanghai Sheshan International Golf Club A pro tournament dubbed 'championship of champions' with special guest Tiger Woods, with commendation from HSBCgolf.com

Much better shots at the Corporate event that would do some justice. Aside to that it is the same style that you shoot. If u know that particular flight have a big star ... stay away from the crowd and shoot from a far. as soon as u join in the crowd you get nothing except these shots ..! Like what I've mentioned before the gess of a golf event is the shots, bunker shots, putting, bokeh, etc ..! Last edited by jeff3tan; 18th June 2007 at 01:53 PM. |

nice perspective... btw, I think the shadow/highlight recovery or HDR trick is a bit overboard.. making the pix looks too surreal, you might wanna lessen it.
