    Default soccer expert pls explain....

    hi,

have been wondering how they make the grass different strips of colour...
one block is darker green and the next block is lighter green...

    is it:
    1. the play different species of grass?
    2. they cut the grass at different lengths ?
    3. they cut the grass at different angles ?
    4. they paint the grass ?

    problems with options:
1: different species would lead to different feel when the ball rolls
2: different lengths of the grass will stop the ball from rolling naturally
3: same problem with option 2 due to different angles of the grass
4: if they paint the grass, wouldn't it block the sunlight into the chlorophyll, thus the grass can't carry out photosynthesis, leading to its death?

so how did they make the grass different colours?

can any soccer expert pls advise?

    thanks

Being a football (yes football, that's the correct name over here where it was invented!!) fan, I can say that the tones of the grass is caused by the way the grass is rolled after being cut. You can have the same effect on a normal garden lawn too.

Some clubs make more intricate designs rather than just the regular horizontal stripes. Stripes can actually assist the linesmen when making offside decisions as they are a good guide for looking along the line (of the defence).
