I've been to Pearl Harbour, but that happened when I was 16, so don't remember much. I did see the USS Arizona memorial though.

I believe USS Missouri it now station beside USS Arizona.

    There is something unique here.
USS Arizona - The Battleship to sink by Japs and US entry to World War II.

USS Missouri - The Battleship to host and witness the Surrender of Japan and End of World War II.

[Huge formation of American planes over USS Missouri and Tokyo Bay celebrating the signing, September 2, 1945]

Pearl Harbour is one of the places I would eagerly like to visit.

    Hiroshima counts?

Iwo Jima IIRC is currently under the administration of the Japanese Govt but due to the US Military Bases located there (as well as Nuclear Submarines located in International Waters inches away from Japanese Waters), its not possible to visit Iwo Jima.

I'm planning a few more return visits to the following places in Japan hopefully in the future:
    - Yasukuni Shrine
    - Okinawa, Himeyuri Peace Museum
    - Nagasaki
    - Kokura (if u're a follower of the closing stages of the US-Japan war, u will know abt Kokura)

Thanks for the link, the most shocking is this line I'd seen:

    Battle of Singapore
    Allied Forces: 85,000
    Japanese Forces: 36,000

    and further references

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Allied Forces: 10,000
    Japanese Forces: 22,000

Superior numbers dun exactly count for everything it seems.

do u know why ? becos those on Iwo Jima are defending for their very own homeland, families in Japan, with hearts full of burden.

The Allied Forces are defending just a colony under instructions from a military commander.

I wonder how many of the 5000 dead in the 1942 Battle are borned and lived on Singapore land.

If only everyone hold such unity, such fierce passion towards one's homeland.

I think LB Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, Sword and many other locations of key battles in the ETO would make a better visit...

Guadalcanal and Bouganville Islands were also scenes of fierce fighting before the Jap capitulated to the American forces.

Yep. And while at it, I am sure they will bring you to the memorial site where the dead of D-day are buried.

Excellent trip for the war buffs... I unfortunately don't have the $ to make a europe holiday happen yet.

remember the first scene of Saving Private Ryan ? that was one of them.

There are those giant coastal guns around, huge bunkers still well maintained.
