Is it legal here in Singapore to shoot anyone without permission?

I am not too sure either. But then again, I don't think they are going to ban photojournalism anytime soon. Also, I am not posting any images of anyone in a compromised pose or position. So that should be ok. If the subject is someone related to you and you would prefer the image to be taken down, then by all means.

In public places, I don't see why it is illegal.
If it was illegal the paparazzi gone case already; everytime take one photo of any artiste go straight to jail. =D |

i think photojournalists from newspapers or TV station had some approvals by the Law and backing from their firms, they had some proper procedures to handle complains of such.
as for hobbyists, i guess u had to be careful and wise, think many times before u shoot. years back, i had a fren who got bashed up by a "ah-beng" becos he took a pic of his "ah-lian " girlfriend. It was quite a scene of loud vulgarities and many onlookers, and no one stop the beating, they just looked and looked... Last edited by raincool2005; 25th May 2007 at 08:59 AM. |

if the 'model' in this picture was to see it, she can pm the threadstarter to remove her image.
i think its 'common sense' that we should not post images of people in demeaning poses or in situations that challenges the ethics or law. In this picture, from my personal point of view. i think its still ok. its candid.

Respect your subjects and all will turn out well. I really don't know what happened between the photographer and the Ah Beng, but I think he really did not know how to choose his subjects carefully and probably did not know how to explain himself properly, or in the first place, his intentions.

In general, no one like to be just snapped out of nowhere, becos privacy is being intruded. Best is to ask before u really want to shoot. Last edited by raincool2005; 25th May 2007 at 09:20 AM. |

You are right. Sometimes I am just too lazy... or cannot be bothered when the people around the subject look a little nasty. Just shoot, and deal with it later.

erm for you info, i'm singaporean, and btw in terms of being camera shy, alot of japanese are more camera shy than the average singaporean (but that's just being shy, alot just smile away) but i wouldn't call hostile reactions (stern looks or hiding away faces like criminals) demonstrated by many singaporeans to photography in public a culture, if not a bad culture. it's public space for goodness. anyway this is OT already.
