Default Digital RF for beginner?

oh well, perhaps beginner in RF. was using DSLR for several years now, mostly for travel photography. hated the bulky size of DSLR so much that i began using my compact digicam often nowadays the Digital RF looks so neat & compact for my use, particularily the M8, but *ouch*, look at the price!

wonder if anyone can help recommend a digital RF less pricy than the M8? I read about the Epson RF? are they any good?

any information will be very much appreciated! Thanks!!

Not much of a choice here... it's either the M8 or R-D1/R-D1s.

Word of advice, if you do decide to go for the Epson, getting a used R-D1 would be of better value over the R-D1s. The generally go for cheaper and are essentially the same piece of hardware. A firmware upgrade (if not already done) will bring the R-D1 up to the "s" standard.

You can check out my web site for the price list of Voigtlander M & screw mount lenses:
http://www.chiifcameras.com/content/view/51/68/

For new Leica lenses, you can check out the 3 local Leica dealers, Cathay, Max & Gope.

still I would love to have the Leica M8 - crop factor is 1.3x, but it's more expensive that the Canon 1D MkIII. hai....

M8 price in Japan not too great. Not much diff. Furthermore, can get in Singapore. So, no point.... The Epson's R-D1 & R-D1s are rare items these days...

Count me in for 1 set Chiif!

3k for a brand new R-D1s is definitely a good price!

Are you planning a trip up soon? Any advise on which shops to check out in the RF area?

No plans to go unless I get orders for 10 sets of R-D1s. Then can cover my capsule hotel and ramen meals.

Japan is the land of cameras.... A couple of shops in Ginza & Shinjuku (check out mapcamera at Shinjuku). But my favourite is Fujiya Camera near the Nakano Station, just 3 stops away from Shinjuku station along the JR Chuo Line.

Wah. One more reason to visit Japan. All I see of Japan is in the transit lounge/terminal at Narita Int'l Airport.
