Default 602z Movie recording questions

Using a 256mb CF card and a 64mb SM (to act as a buffer?), how my minutes of avi (320x240) can I record at a go?

Why don't you just try it and see.

320x240 usually don't pose a problem because of its lower data rate.

640x480 would require really fast CF cards, Microdrive or SM to record properly unlimited. Some have said that reformatting CF cards and changing the cluster size will allow it to record faster(hence longer before buffer runs out).

You don't need to use a SM as a buffer for recording video.

As for how long u can record, it depends on the speed of the CF card. If it's fast enough, it'll record the full length possible.

At 320x240, you can get ~435 s on a 256 Mb CF.

You can record 15 mins of video for 640x480 at 30fps on 1GB.

i realised the shutter button is very sensitive during video recording... a very light touch will stop recording.... so keep ur finger away from the button while recording

That's b'coz a "light touch" too heavy would be equivalent to a half-press, resulting in the recording to be stopped.

I can only get 30s of video on my 512 CF. Non-continous. Can anyone teach me how to record beyond that 30s mark?

Thanx

Your CF card has to be fast enough.

What CF card are u using?

If it's not fast enough you can try formatting the card with a larger allocation unit size like 8192 bytes.

My Ridata 20x requires such a format to record continuous video; my transcend 30x, on the other hand, is able to do it straight out of the box.

Thanx for your prompt response. I appreciate it very much.

As u had mentioned, it's 8192 per block and I am using Harigawa.

I do have a Ridata, 128mb, but also cannot.

Does DSC or Pc-cam make a difference?

pls help.

thanx again

If formatting doesn't help then apparently the CF card isn't fast enough.

Ridata 128 Mb is rated at 16x only.

DSC/PC-Cam doesn't make any difference. It only determines which mode the digital camera is in when connected to the computer.
DSC mode is for you to download images.
PC-Cam mode allows u to use the 602z as a webcam.

The only way is to buy a faster CF card (at least 20x).

By the way, the specs of 602 mentioned that video recording is only 30sec max.

Can it reeeally go beyond that because of a faster CF card?

pls advice

I believe you misinterpreted something somewhere. It's not 30s max. It records at 30 frames per sec. Length is only limited by storage.

reformatting the CF card using a card reader under Windows will help increase the time.... instructions were posted before, see if you could find them.
