Default My crappy photo sold in US for 5,500USD

This crappy photo of mine shot 7 years ago with slide film and a desklamp has just been sold in US for ads in magazines and newspapers. Don't have the full details of it.

There is something wrong with the background and the yellow cast was si beh strong as it was shot with a hot tungsten desklamp and daylight slide film. It was the only lamp I had as I remembered every piece of gelatine I put in front of it was half melt.

Hahah! Not every one of my photos can fetch this kind of money. Only once in 7 years which is better than my 4D investments.

This goes on to show a crappy photo gets the chance to be sold with a good price if someone has a use for it. And sometimes you don't need to have good gear to make a good buck.

No I am not getting the full 5,500 USD. The agency pockets 70% of it leaving me only 1,650 USD. Si beh Sian. 7 years ago I was desperate enough to sign a 70% them 30% me contract with them. I've stopped sending photos to them for years. The moral of the story is: you'll get screwed when you start up and you'll also get screwed when you're not starting up".

Mate, that sounds like a pretty decent return...

Is it for a one off use or the rights now belong to the owner for good?

No. it's not sold for exclusive rights.

It's rights managed meaning anyone can still licence the photo for other use if the usage is not competing.

It just shows that your pics are valued! Just keep shooting. Who knows, in 20 years, your pics will fetch more values.

Well mate, I guess upon reading, I was almost on the verge of giving up photography due to some events of late, lack of inspiration and of cos, joining a couple of big contests without results, was thoroughly disappointed though.

But I guess u'd inspired me in a way to keep that spark alive instead of extinguishing it.

This is the reason I want to spread a bit of good cheer around. Photography is such a long and loney road. I get this nagging feeling all the time, "Am I doing it right? Is my decision right? How can I do better? etc."

We really need every bit to stay motivated and inspired. I think getting busy producing new and fresh photos and trying to push ourselves a little bit and attempting something new could be the tonic we need. Most importantly Play and Enjoy it.
