First time trying out a new cheap lens setup ($45) -- reverse 28-70mm with a 55mm to 52mm step down ring.
Will be posting some spiders (http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost....4&postcount=17) and a butterfly (http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost....&postcount=201) in other threads. #1 ![]() #2 ![]() Last edited by nyxx88; 16th May 2007 at 09:46 PM. |

I think its quite an acceptable level rather than using a real Macro lens. Only drawback is the low DOF using a reversed lens or is it your F stop usage?

Was excited with the new 28-70mm lens, so I went shooting after 6pm to try out. Not much choice but to use F/5.6 most of the time & F/8.0 occasionally, because it was just too dark to see & focus. Will be trying it out under brighter conditions when opportunity permits .Was happiest with the spider & butterfly shot though (see earlier post for links). For a cheap setup, I think it was worth it. Thanks for viewing . |

Is the pics just resized or cropped?

Tried a new setup today -- Vivitar x2 Macro Convertor + 50mm. Some plus points over a reverse lens setup:
- aperture remains fully open until shutter is pressed - allows a wider compositional range (better for shooting butterflies or bigger bugs) Will need to shoot more with this setup to get to know it better. ![]() Butterfly is here http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost....&postcount=228 Spider is here http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost....4&postcount=21 |

Went to AH to try shooting butts, but no skills to shoot them
. It requires even more patience than shooting spiders & other bugs. It was nice meeting espion & nightmare86 there though!! I am sure those 2 had better skills & luck than me.It was such a bitter-sweet experience trying to shoot them. Each time I was about to give up, they would come fluttering close by & land. Not one, but a few of them!! My interest rekindled, I try again & they fly away again, taunting me, teasing me... In the end, got these other shots instead. Since cannot get the adult, get the young :P. The fly being the exception of course. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
