I've just been handed an old Nikonos IVa camera. Before risking it underwater, I think I at least better change the O rings.
Can some expert pls tell me where to get the O rings in Singapore and how much they will cost? There's some silicone grease I should apply too right? Is there a proper technique in the application process? Thanks so much. |

Meeky, you can get them from this guy here on E-bay for $15 USD plus shipping.
Chloroflourocarbon grease is better than silicone grease, but more $. You take a TINY amount and just start pulling the o-ring in a circle between your fingers till you've made several complete loops. Remember, just a little amount, you shouldn't be able to really see it after spreading it. Too much and it will attract hair and debris.

The ebay seller doesn't ship internationally, though... |

other than changing the user replaceable o rings.....since it is 'old', u may want ot have it pressure test or have it service.......not sure if nikon service center does the servicing but sea & sea at adelphi does do pressure test and servicing....u may wish to call them up to check......

Try Garlin Pte Ltd.
Along Towner Road/Boon Keng MRT. Bring along your old O rings to match. |

If it is used O-ring they might give you the wrong (stretched) size. |

just send it into Nikon service center... and they will do a brilliant job for 40 sgd if i remember correctly. and then you still have a few days of warrenty.... go test it immediately.... any thing go wrong ... i am sure the good people at Nikon will address accordingly ![]() ![]() ....ooh and bring your lens along too.... you need to clean them all up.... you just got yourself a treasure.... Nikonos never goes out of fashion...... Have fun bubbling underwater ![]() |

With original O ring, if the O ring causes the housing to flood u still can blame the manufacturers,,, If using third party.....the O ring guy will just say '''Huh...I dont know ...." So I will also appeal to you .. please stop asking ppl to buy third party..... |

why did u think that will happen? if you can afford it , going back to the original manufacturer would always be better lah. unless it makes a lot of difference, and you are willing to take the risk. cos the reasons of flooding (god forbid!!!!) can be so many, and unable to tell for sure why when it happens, using third party o rings does make it even more dubious when it happens.. (again, god forbid!!! ) |
