Default Deuter backpack turned mouldy - any cleaning options ?

    Hello all,

I've got a Deuter backpack that has turned mouldy and sticky in our humid conditions and mainly due to lack of use.
Do you know of any place that can clean it well ?
I had thought of soaking it overnight in warm soapy water, but my friend recommended that I shouldn't do that as it will spoil the fabric.
Don't have the heart to throw a good backpack away, so any recommendations will be most welcome.

    Thanks.

soak it for 30 mins with warm water and normal soap (body soap)
no bleach or any other stuff added into water.
rub down with cloth, no scrub
then hang it up to dry, ensure is stretch out and fully dried.

fabric will be ok, dun worry.

If tribal.snake method works on urs.. like me know.. so I can try also.. haa haa

Wanted to wash it but reckon that the "peeling" will come back again.. Unless all the "protective materials" has shed off.

i used to trek a lot, so had similar problems, happy to share.

most bags can be wash this way, just stay off conditioners, bleach and such stuff.
got smell, try washing it with a bit of rock salt and a bit of lime/lemon. helps a little.
    sun helps the most.

if got stains or funny hard to remove stuff, go to one of the adventure shops and look for bag shampoos. exp stuff, not 100% will work either, nvr tried them.

the peeling is the water resistent/proof layer coming off.
not much way to protect it as this is subjected to wear and tear.
there is a spray which u can use for new bags, to spray on to protect this layer.
but again, is exp and works a while only.

I bought one Deuter bag from Tangs. The inside of the bag got "sticky", the water resistant layer.

Call the Deuter Agent...they say, sorry cannot help u, we are the new agent, not responsible for the previous agent sales..

Then, I threw the bag away...gave up. Now dun buy Deuter liao...Lost confidence.

suntanned will kill the mold, but u still need to wash it to get it off from the fabric.

    next time sticky, dun buang.
cheap solution is to use powder but it gets messy
else try water repellent spray, works best.

Maybe you should highlight this to Deuter GMBH (the Germany HQ)?

If this stays to be the case, then most so-called 'lifetime' warranties on Deuter bags bought before this new distributor came about is not valid anymore! I'm sure this is in violation of some consumer law...

cleaning agents i wun recommend. most agents contain traces of bleach in it.
unless u have one that's meant for cleaning bags, go with water and ordinary soap.

btw, the new distributer has to honour the warranty. but... the catch is this. they honour for goods that are damaged due to their fault e.g. manufacturing defects. else everything they will push it as wear and tear.

... the old distributors were crap...
