Default 150mm is equal to how many times of zoom?

I am new in DSLR and just got my first camera.
Just a quick question regarding to camera lenses. For example, 150mm is equal to how many times of zoom?? or how far it can reach??

the number of times optical zoom u see in compact cameras is the tele focal length divided by the wide angle focal length so a 10x optical zoom might have a range of 28-280mm or 35-350mm or 40-400mm equivalent on a 35mm camera... All these qualify as 10x zooms....

Guess you can't say that 150mm is equal to X many times optical zoom....

150mm f2 for Olympus DSLR is equivalent to 300mm f2 in normal format.
There is a 2x multification factor.

I think you mean how many times compared to "normal". Normal is considered as 50mm in 35mm full frame format. In case of Olympus, the normal will be 25mm due to the 2x crop factor. Therefore, a 150mm will be equivalent of 6x the normal view (or 1/6 the view angle of normal).

Ok, to make things really simple (I hope!) to visualize...

Your eyes have the same magnification as the focal length of 100mm in 35mm terms (or 50mm in FourThirds).

To imagine 200mm, from the middle of your field of view, crop out half of the total area (imagine away the outer half).

take the max mm divided by the min.

20 - 70 is 3.5x

70 - 3oo is bout 4x

Hmm, I am a bit confused here as I have always been told that 50mm (35mm terms) gives the same perspective as the human eyes just like what F2000 has mentioned.

There again, I might be wrongly informed all these while. Just clarifying. Thanks.

Thanks to casey for clearing up that bit of ambiguity.

In summary:
The human eye is equivalent to 50mm (35mm terms) focal length of field of view, and 100mm (35 terms) focal length of magnification.

Hope this helps the TS.
