    PE - try going popular and get those 2x-8x DVD media. i used to buy 16x DVD and ended up coastering half the stack on ONE project...

    now i'm sticking to the slower speed discs.

    Buy HD instead no headache and fast in access too.
    Crash just plug out and change one.

    Cost is one thing but data lost is terrible.
    That is what I actually have now after a near miss.
    Raid 5 with 3.7Tb of storage so now everything I take is RAW
    All running 24/7 I never switch it off.

    I do dual backup, 1 in external drive and 1 in DVD .

    ... not to mention the electricity bill at the end of each month

    Then again, the problem would always be the bottleneck of the network if you're running NAS devices which do not support bandwidth teaming - essential if you're the type that click and i expect it to load in a second. For that, gotta go enterprise class ala 1U devices with screaming fans, racks etc. and the list goes on
