    Default DDR Ram Prices

I am not too sure what is the market price like now but what would be the cost of a stick of DDR 1Gb Ram?

My friend has a Compaq desktop which runs on 256Mb of Ram (Samsung PC2700)

Now, I am wondering if i get 2 sticks of Kingston 1GB (PC-3200/CL3.0) 400MHz DDR SDRAM, would it fit? What does the CL 2.5 or 3.0 represent?

    Kindly advise.

Price wise i'm not pretty sure if i got the cheapest in town. But i would say it range from 130 to 140, value rams of course, depending on brands
But the one you mentioned about the CL 2.5 or CL3 i guess is referring to the CAS# Latency. IIRC most of the value rams which has a capacity of more than 512mb will only comes in CL3 or even CL4.
As for the DDR 400 PC 3200, it will fit onto the DDR 333 PC 2700's slot, but your ram speed will only run at 333mhz instead of 400mhz.
    hope this helps.

    Hi wolfgang,

you may need to take out the 256MB stick and then just replace it with 2x1GB sticks.

    Currently, the price is about:

    1GB PC2700: 130-140
    1GB PC3200: 133-135

Prices are for Kingston/Corsair. Avoid cheap stuff like PDP.

PDP is not good? My current one is PDP... looking to add another stick of 1GB.

To wolfgang, PDP 1GB PC3200 DDR400 CL2.5 is about $120. The lower the CL the better.

Most OEM board BIOS don't work well with CL below 3.0 so I would not advise getting CL2 or 2.5 DDR RAM.

And yes, I would avoid PDP, especially on OEM boards where the BIOS is not designed to adapt to wide tolerances in DDR sticks.
