Default Beached

Hi,

I'm new to photography and this forum.
I welcome, constructive, advice and criticism of these shots.

Thanks

Beached

Autumn Leaves

Sea Sick

The horizon on the last shot is deliberately skewed. It is intended to show the boat level and induce a slight feeling of being at sea!
Thanks again!

Thank you for your, less than welcoming, post, eikin!
I'm new to this site and you could have been a bit more understanding and explained your
actions in a friendlier manner!
Never mind, eh, lots more sites out there to try!

Dont think eikin is rude over here - he said please and thanks.

On another note, try being a moderator and you'll know it feels. Thanks =)

Cowism,
Thanks for that,
I said the reply was unwelcoming, not rude.
Maybe I'm just used to the friendly guys over on Dyxum!
I have been a moderator! So I know how it feels... being friendly takes the same amount of time!
YES, I should have read the posts but then... I didn't know that, did I?
Just think the reply could have been a bit more understanding and taken a friendlier tone... that's all...

eikin,
I don't want to get into an argument here. I don't chose to read more than is written, that's the point... you wrote very little. No 'Hi, sorry, but you made a small mistake... please read this...'. Just a terse, 'Do take note'. You must concede that, given that I don't know you or your reputation, or your site - at all - this gives the impression at least of being quite sharp. Maybe you don't think so, I don't know, but I feel you could greet new members with a bit more of a welcoming tone... that's all!

Oh dear, if that's sharp, I guess you probably don't want to hear honest critique then!

I mean, there were only a few stickies at the Critique Corner, being new is no excuse for selective vision, and being a wisecrack! Only I'm allowed to do that.

And.. How's that for a warm welcome? =D

Jokes aside, I assure you that I am entirely friendly and I come in peace, I like the first photo, but the second is giving me nightmares - I have no idea what you intended to do but it really does look like a tree that can't decide whether it's bleeding or shedding red paint. I don't think that would be anywhere in your list of intentions, but the photo editing simply does not work. For me. It may well work for someone else, but I think the resultant effect is in short, horrible.

Wouldn't want to give you nightmares now would I!
Funny, that's the one that was just commented on in another, pro, site as being excellent. Guess there's no accounting for taste! The red does look a bit more 'red' in this version for some reason though. I asked for friendly, constructive crit. I guess you can't do that here, I don't know...
'Horrible'... maybe some tips on how You would have done it would be better!
I don't think I was being a wisecrack! Sorry!

Anyway, I'm off!

Some people simply choose to listen to what they want to listen. I guess if you had indeed come here in the first place to ask for 'constructive, advice and criticism' then you should be prepared to accept them.

night86mare has already give u his comments on your pictures. If you think that this forum is not 'pro' enough, why would you register and post here in the first place?
Shouldn't you have stayed with the pro people in the pro forum?
Why bother coming to this 'not-pro' place?
Could it be that you purposely post here in hope of getting all praises from the people in this forum(like they did over there)? and therefore choose only to listen to the + and not the - ?

and if you take the action of moving your thread here as an unfriendly act, I really wonder if you've really been a moderator in the first place. If you did, then you would have understood that inappropriate or irrelevant thread would have to be moved accordingly.

Scott, we do welcome new forumers. i have my own opinion on how moderation with a tight rein sometimes come off as harsh, but there is certain grounds that the moderator comes from.

in this case, i believe the links are provided and you are not being accused of anything. your reaction might have been a knee jerk which i'm not sure why, and perhaps you are the only one who's not friendly here if you noticed so far. we are just about to explain to you why your 2nd and 3rd pic fails, but we are now afraid of proceeding with that.

Can i just say this guy is just another prude looking for places for people to worship him..
From the first post when he mentioned "constructive", i have a feeling that what he really meant was "don't say anything bad unless you can back it up with loads of cheem theory". (Yes i am indeed being abit too fast to judge on that single wording, but well..)

And the rest of his replies shows me that that is exactly what he is trying to get at. Sucking up and praises. Anything else is rude and he is always right.

Oh well, be well gone dude.

I like the pics. I think #2 is too strong - perhaps just highlighting the leaves on the ground would be more subtle (but i don't know what your desired effect was)

I do like "Beached". But then, i guess Scottmo would prefer something like "WoW! All of them are so nice! So Beautiful".(And i guess this is his definition of "Constructive"). Sorry, i can't do that. Even the best photographer in the world got to learn that you cannot satisfied everyone in terms of taste and preference. And eikin definitely did his job right and in a polite way. Note that eikin put a "thanks" at the end of his first message.
