Default DNG format in Camera RAW

You can convert Raw format of any brand of DSLR to dng format. Is it better and can you convert previously converted JPEG pictures to dng for filing and save-keeping?

Is dng (digital negative) file format only for RAW or for all version?

its pretty pointless to convert jpg to DNG for archive purpose, since the color is already lost, and have already undergone some jpg compression (plus you are using more storage for DNG than jpg)... but useful if you intend to further PP the jpg.
