CP4500 Users, why did you buy this camera?
What do you like about it and not like about it? I know there are reviews at www.dpreview.com but would like to hear about it from clubsnap users. Is it advisable to get this camera now as it is almost 1 yr old? Nikon have previously released this sviwel design digicam yearly, starting from 900s in 1998, 950 in 1999, 990 in 2000, 995 in 2001, and then 4500 in 2002. Will they release an updated version this year anytime soon? I know no one probably have any insider information, but what do you all think? Is the announcement of the 3 digicam at PMA this year all for Nikon's new line of digicam this year? Or will there be more to be released later in the year? Thanks ![]() Last edited by Freed; 20th March 2003 at 05:54 AM. |

The 9xx, 4500 series has been a love affair for me. The swivel design makes it easy to shoot candids. Most of my subjects are unaware you are taking their picture.
Another great design is the internal focusing, making easy to attach teleconverters, monoscope, fisheyes. The manual controls are there to get you the perfect shot. An external cable allows you to hook to most professional flash system. I even hooked it to my giant Metz 64 hammerhead. It is capable of focusing even in dim lights. Most pictures I took during a wedding dinner were surprisingly sharp. I paid $980 for the 4500, cheap compared to the 2mp 940 which was first sold for >$1600. But all cameras has it quirks, you need post processing to get the best out of the 4500. Manual distance control is next to useless. Batteries runs flat fast, so you'll need at least 3 sets. Bracketing is needed for tricky lightings, otherwise you'll get clipped highlights. I hope a better successor to the 4500 will be released, that will be great. Picture taken with Coolpix 940 ![]() |

The Nikon site states batteries last for 100 mins... but it is seldom true. How long can it lasts or how many shots can uou take with it on the average.
3 batteries for a day of shooting? And how much does the battery costs? Need to do all the research on this before I can commit to buying ![]() Thanks ![]() |

Here is one taken in Labrador park, apparently this is the place for wedding sunsets picts. Taken handheld by resting the camera on the railing and shooting waist level. Picture quality is crap with cheap kenko lens and high iso. Hopefully I can afford a better scope the next time. Device maker: NIKON Device model: E4500 ISO level: 400 Exposure time: 1/512s F Number : 5.7 ![]() Last edited by tualan; 24th March 2003 at 04:28 AM. |
