Default Bintan, AngSoka Villa. Place to be for peacefule R&R

This is a photo of Angsoka Villa in bintan. In the late morning (Taken using IR filter). A very peaceful place for R&R.

Wanted to show that this is a peacful and beautiful place which we can go enjoy.

(FACT : Bintan is a expensive place to go. Good for relaxing but otherwise not really much to do. Without paying that is. )

Pls comment.

Tilted horizon is quite obvious. Care to share settings and camera used? Looks like there's vignetting too, slight.

Yap.. u r rite. Should have done something 'bout that.

Camera Settings as follows.

18mm, F/5.6, 30Seconds Exposure, ISO-100. Camera used Nikon D80. Kit lens 18-135 Dx.

Seems like at 18mm the two filters will cause slight vignettng. Might have to remove one of the filter the next time I try.

Had the UV filter on. Too lazy to remove that.

The image looked sharp at this size. When put to 100% can see that the edges becomes soft. Probably due to slight shaking. It was quite windy at that time.

Wa, that's really long, you could have cut it down by taking out the UV filter, hee hee.

But in any case, I like the angle that you have taken, shows the spread of the pool, and the clouds are very dramatic. The image actually doesn't really look very soft, which is why I asked which camera you used for the IR, D80 is not very sensitive.. So couple that with your large aperture, then that'd be the answer, I guess.

Other than the horizon, which I'd mentioned, I would have moved a little to the left, so that the corner of the pool ( it is a swimming pool , right?) would not be left out of the photo , but it's possible there were reasons why you left it out.

But your photo has definitely attained the purpose of conveying that the place is very relaxing.

As an afterthought, why didn't you leave this in colour IR? Didn't use Hoya R72? =D

night86mare :

Well, U r rite abt the corner. An oversight on my part. Was too busy trying out the filter. Putting in and out. Composing the picture etc.

Should've included the corner. Well, too bad I missed it. Try again nxt time.

It's my first try at IR. Am using the Hoya R72. You can use color? (Pardon my ignorance.)

The first time I tried in color, the photo came out all reddish.

Any particular settings? What did I do wrong?

You need to do a custom WB, but I understand from D80 owners from the IR section here that you'd need a pretty long exposure to do proper WB..

The idea is to take a shot of grass or leaves (as much as possible filling the frame) in bright sunlight WITH the filter on. Someone recently managed to do a proper WB on D80, here are his tips:

D80 IR capable thread

Besides, even if you do not get the WB spot on, but something close, you can still PP into the typical IR picture - blue skies with white trees, etc. It's ok, we are all learning, just that some have more experience with IR and some don't, etc. Did you keep the original? Can post it here and I'll work on it on PS if you'd like to see how the scene would look in IR colour. =)

seems too cold to be relaxing
u have 2 seperate elements, the sky and the pool which are fighting for focus.

night86mare : Thks for the tips. Will try it out.

tribal.snake : I take another look at the photo after ur comment. Well, can't say you are wrong. Does also seem to convey a feeling of cold. Will try out the IR in color and next time I am there, will give it another shot!

Yep. He's right. Warm tones are usually better at conveying a feeling of comfort... peaceful...

Is this any better? I had an image captured in color. Did a WB using Lightroom.

but imo, IR shots dun convey peacefulness....

to compare the first and 2nd pic, i think the 1st one is better.

Think u r right. Why I see it as peaceful is probably due to the fact that I have experience the peace there first hand. Looking at the photo reminds me of the feeling I have and it is not what the photo converys.
