    Default Product Photographing for Website

My friend is looking for freelance photographer (no pro, due to budget constraint) to photograph the products his company sells, e.g. house decoratives, lampshade, table lamp, tea light holder, lighting accessories etc. The pictures will be used in his company website.

Anyone has contact? what is the market rate?

    Thanks!

Some questions (and possibly more) that you need to answer before anyone can even quote you a meaningful rate.

    1. How many products total?
    2. Simple area lighting on white background? OR complex lighting which is different for each product?
    3. Size of final output photo? 600 x 400 enough for your website?
    4. Will products be delivered to photographer's studio or does photographer have to bring his barang there?
    5. Expected turnaround delivery time after date of shoot?

Number of product is about 10 for first batch, some of them are quite similar - (same item but different design)

I would say complex lighting and suitable background rather than white background - whether some computer graphic background or real set up. The idea is to bring out the "feeling" of the product to create impulsive shopping -e.g. when shoot a lamp, photographer suppose find a suitable background/setting for it, rather than just use the plain background. Details to be discussed.

    Size of Output: minimum 1600x 1200 - 300dpi

Will delivered the item to photographer (to be discussed)

Turnaround time - 1 week (negotiable)

As he never approach freelancer photographer for this kind of product shooting, he has no idea on budget. Any expert here to advise?

This criteria alone calls for pro product shooters. Your fren better stand by a big stack of notes for this sort of work.

    Complex lighting = more $$.
    'suitable' background = more $$.
Computer graphic background = even more $$(special effect from fotographer or graphic designer or 3D animator).
Real set-up = $$ varies depends on quite a no. of factors such as space availability(hotels etc.).
Mood shot for each of the product = planning = time = more $$.

    verdict:
i think this is a very costly project.

    JKPicture,

From what you've described, it looks like a fair bit of work - from lighting to styling & arrangements. My opinion is that if you want to keep your costs low, you would somehow have to conceptualize the styling and selection of appropriate background, etc. in advance and get the environment available for the photographer.

This way, the photographer would just have to take care of the lighting. But having said that, it really depends on how elaborate you want the lighting to be, which may still lead to a higher costing if more lights are used. So as much as possible, keep it simple (and I do not mean by just a white background).

Just my 2 cents worth of experience....
