Thread: iPod Video + Apple iPod Camera Connector

Default iPod Video + Apple iPod Camera Connector

Anyone using the combination above as their portable storage while travelling?

Thinking of getting an 80GB iPod with this for travelling.

Apparently, you can connect a regular memory card reader in the USB port and it will ask to import photos.

Anyone can comment on its performance, i.e. transfer speed etc.?

    Thanks!

nvr tried this, but have used a belkin one before to do direct copy from cf cards.
speed is slow. otherwise is quite handy. expensive though, there are better alternatives.

    well, i have this.

transfer speed was not fast in my opinion and worst thing is that it eats up battery of your ipod like free.

I love it! It allowed me to take 5GB of photos on my last trip with just a single 1GB CF Card. Must warn you that transfer speed is really slow and saps battery on both the camera and iPod though. Must bring chargers for both and plan carefully when you want to transfer and charge (e.g. transfer when sleeping, charge first thing in the morning before setting off)

On the other hand, I use a couple of SD cards on the Nikon D80 now, 4GB and 2GB, so the $50 I spent on the connector now is kinda wasted. It's amazing how the little SD cards can store so much. They even have an 8GB now. That's more than enough space for any trip unless you are planning to shoot your shutter count to astronomical figures.

One other warning, photos general turn out better on any 2 inch camera LCD than on the iPod!

    Hope this helps.
