Not sure if this has been mentioned here but this guy from dpreview seems to have gotten a few Nikon lenses to fit on his Pentax. Anyone has tried this before? If it works, then the range available to Pentaxians have increased! I very much doubt the contacts are the same , so manual focus probably...

it just can be sloted in la, since ist body can AE and focus with what ever lens mounted. due to the focol length difference, it can not focus infinity, and can not be fasten to body, too. In some forums, some guys can DIY to replace mount ring with adjusted thickness for full function

Come on! Be a man!
I just decide to by Pentax K10D due to the preferable color it produces. But my friend(Nikon Fans) recommended me to buy D200 aggressively. He had emailed me this thread, The subject of that email was "They are so pitiful.............because they need to seek for alternative" Oh!!!! If you don't want to use Pentax Lens, why you go for Pentax. Last edited by bigworld; 2nd May 2007 at 08:40 PM. |

Better get some excellent Pentax lenses if you are using Pentax. But it's always fun to try something different (like using a Nikon lens on a Pentax camera), and I know alot Nikon and Canon users use some excellent Pentax M42 lenses on their cameras . If everybody only uses the camera makers lenses, those third party manufacturers won't exist I guess ![]() |

Hi WeiFeng
Yes, you are right I will still buy the good third party lens such like Tonika. Because they are cheaper and good as well. But I don't understand that they buy nikon lens which is more expensive than Pentax original lens and mount it on Pentax body. I haven't bought the camera. But I am already contaminated by those photos taken by Pros. Compared Pentax 16-45 and Sigma 17-70, I like the color of pentax 16-45 in most of the landscapes pics. But I really not see much landscapes pics taken with Sigma 17-70. Most of pics by Sigma 17-70 are Macro or Portrait pics. So is Pentax 16-45 better than Sigma 17-70 in Lanscapes? How about the performance of Pentax 16-45 in Macro and Portrait? Last edited by bigworld; 3rd May 2007 at 12:34 AM. |

Well, I guess some Pentax owners also own some Nikon lenses too, and they might be interested to see how they perform on a Pentax camera Not really buy a Nikon lens specifically for using on a Pentax The Sigma 1770 is a very versatile lens, it can do landscape (all lenses can take landscapes I think), portrait, macro (well, close-ups I'd say, not really macro). So if you don't wanna take more than one lens, this is the one to go (imo). The Pentax 1645 is abit too short for portrait, although still can take some good ones. But you'd have to get very close to the targets which won't be easy sometimes. It's only about 1:4 magnification (the Sigma is 1:2.3), good for some flowers, but not really good for smaller subjects. Owners of the 1645 will use it mostly for landscapes, while owners of the Sigma 1770 would use the lens pretty much for everything ![]() I went to Philippines for a short trip several weeks back w/ a Sigma 1770 and Pentax 50200, and my favorite landscape photos were taken by the DA50200. So I guess wider isn't always better for landscapes. Last edited by fengwei; 3rd May 2007 at 09:50 AM. |

Pentax lenses is not all that bad.
The old SMC lenses are very good. Just saw the excellent Pentax 77mm f1.8 lens. Superb build / construction and very small. All moving parts are very smooth. If only other manufacturer made their lenses like that. |

Hi FengWei,
If I am not wrong, I know you own both 16-45mm and 17-70mm. Which one you prefer to use to take Landscape pics? Is color of Pentax 16-45mm better than Sigma 17-70mm |

12-24 is much more expensive.
And I think tonika is not going to come out the Pentax Mount. So forget it. 16 is wide enough for me I think. Do you have some landscape pics taken by Sigma 17-70mm? |

IMHO you want average wide (16-20mm range) go for the DA 16-45mm as it has lesser distortion comparing with Sigma 17-70mm. But if you want a good walk about lens, go for Sigma 17-70mm.

Yeah, I do have some landscape pics taken by the Sigma 1770. You can take a look at my photos taken during a trip to Philippines last month: http://www.pbase.com/franksgalleries/philippines_2007 Most photos were taken by the Sigma 1770 during the whole trip, and all EXIF remain intact. So if you see focal length is longer than 70, it's definitely by the DA50-200. All the rest should be by the Sigma 1770. Cheers! |

Hi FengWei,
Nice photos taken! I still prefer the Pentax Color. So I think I will go for SMC 16-45mm/F4 and SMC 50-200mm. Recently, I have requested E-Quote from CP and MS: Quotation from CP: Pentax K10D body @S$1250.00 and SMC 16-45mm F4 @S$510.00 If I will buy this set, what are the accessories coming alone with it? Free: 1 GB SD card. How is the Warranty ? 1 year warranty. Quotation from MS: Pentax K10d body--41240+5% gst free 1 G card. Pentax len 16-45--$520+5% gst waiting list. Is the price reasonable? Where can I get it with the lowest price? ![]() Last edited by bigworld; 4th May 2007 at 09:33 AM. |

The 1645 price is really good, if GST is included. I was quoted over $550 nett a while ago. Maybe you should get teh DA50200 along w/ the purchase, so you might get a better deal ![]() Good luck! |

Lenses are global products and I've bought many grey lenses in the past with no problems. Got my grey 50mm from OP recently and I don't foresee any problems with it now or in the future. A 16-45 and a 50-200 make a great combo.
