These poverty stricken people have been reduced to living beside railway tracks in dirty slums which puts them in full risk of a head on collision with any train that comes along their way.

Pics that reminded us that we are a fortunate lot in Singapore
![]() Here we are talking which expensive and good lens to buy, and complaining this one no good, that one not sharp. Sigh... Everytime, we complain about life no good in Singapore, please take a look at these photos. #2,3,5,7 & 11 my favourites. Last edited by obewan; 28th April 2007 at 11:33 AM. |

there are people who are talking about which expensive and good ship to buy too, and are skeptical about ships that is unsafe or badly desined. so should they look at those only buying lenses and cameras, and stop being critical about what they are buying. or should we look at them instead, and thinks that we are not complaining enough. similarly, poor people are yet much more fortunate than people who are living in a war-torn era and life is all misery and fear, and not just the deprivation of wealth. so where do we stand? there is a whole spectrum of different livelihood at different locations, so comparison should be minimised. the way you live is not of a wrong just becos of a different affluence. what is more important is whether you make good use of what you buy - and that is of the same importance, whether to a rich person or the poorest. similarly to all, we should treasure what we have. that is regardless of how wealthy are are too. we can have a person who earns less than S$800 a month but who only thinks about drinking alchohol and raging about racial hatred, and we can also have a person who earns more than S$5000 a month but does not waste money on indulgence. so life is as such. anyway if the photos can raise a discussion about life, really it works, more than the aesthetic merits of being a photo. there is life and story within the pictures.

Is the kid crying because you are taking her picture? Just curious, if she doesn't want you to take her picture, then you shouldn't have.

Hi Zoossh...
In any field (such as photography), we should be responsible enough. When shooting people, especially, we should keep in mind that we have to protect their dignity also. That's why, we have to approach people and ask their permission to take their photos, if they decline, then we have to respect what they want. ![]() |
