    and most importantly for a "budget" priced camera like K100D it comes with a "free" image stabilisation for any lens you put on.

    sub 1K DSLR set with built in image stabilisation.

    all in all most of the time its about the brand recognition for most.

    but you're right too with the other brands.

    1300 - either canon 400D body n get a 2nd hand kit lens. or get nikon d40x kit set. both are less than 1300...

    some info for u d 80 kit now cost 1.7k and the d40x cost 1.45k and d 80 comes with a kit lens of 18-135mm and d40x comes with a 18-55mm lens if i m not wrong! hope this helps!

    you could get a D40 (without the x) and the tamron for about 1400 give or take so it's really up to you!
