One condition is that the film must be edited using iMovie software. Sounds a bit mickey-mouse, especially when you see the prizes. For fun only I suppose it's OK, but would be more useful if they teach you FCP rather than iMovie.

Actually, it IS compulsory to attend both workshops, where they teach you how to use mickey-mouse sorry iMovie program for editing your movie, and no doubt try to persuade you to buy a Mac. I was very interested until I found out about that part.

Yeah true . . i mean for those who are unsure about imovie would probably be better off going for it .. but dun think i'll be going . have been using mac for darn long and imovie and FCP .. its quite easy also . Those who have used other editing softwares would definitely have a much shorter learning curve for the imovie . Anyway hobbes , if u r taking part , do inform me k ? take care!

Hi Acethief. This is from the Canon website for the competition, http://www.canon.com.sg/DVtriathlon/. If you interpret this as meaning the seminars are optional then I don't know what to say. Please let us know how it goes.

One thing I am puzzled about - they don't seem to mention mickey-mouse explicitly. I wonder why?

The DVTriathlon competition takes place on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at iShop by Club 21 at Orchard Cineleisure.

Each team should comprise minimum 3 and maximum 4 members. A $10 fee applies to each member.

All team members must attend the two sessions of DVTriathlon Seminars held on April 28 and May 5. The seminars cover film making and editing techniques.

Contest objective: Each team has to produce an original 3-minute movie during the 8-hour competition.

Each team has to perform the following tasks during the 8-hour competition:
a. Shoot video footage using a MiniDV camera, based on a theme provided by the organisers. The footage must incorporate three mandatory mystery elements given out during the competition hours by the organisers.
b. Edit the footage using the Apple iMovie HD software on Apple Macintosh computers provided by iShop by Club21 iShop at Orchard Cineleisure. The end product must be a 3-minute long movie.
c. Produce a DVD-Video disc of the movie using the Apple iDVD software, which will be submitted for judging.
