I have an OEM battery (Li-Ion) for my D40.
I am not sure about the brand but the box says "Digital". Anyone here knows their reliability? Thank for sharing your experience. |

I have that as my backup battery. Used for about a month now, not bad except that when it runs out, it runs out real quick! (2 to 1 to 0 bars in half a day)

How much you paid for the OEM battery? Also, how much is the original battery? Thanks...

I am using a SDV 3rd party battery for my D40, rated at 1500mAh.
Bought during last PC show from a booth set up by Swissco Photographic Supplies. 1yr warranty by them. Last longer than the original Nikon battery.

I hardly see the D40/D40x original battery around (EN-EL8?) so it's hard to say whether this OEM is worth it...

With so many old topics on OEM batteries, you guys should have an inkling that Nikon will not warranty your camera if there is any problems with OEM batteries, esp if there is a leakage or damage arising from usage of 3rd party batteries.
So risking a camera over a lil bit you save from the batteries, is it worth it? ![]() |

The reason why Harvey Norman (and other similar shops like Best, Courts etc etc) sell at higher price is because they throw in more "freebies" so they mark up the cost.

I think $65 is an okay price for the original battery.

My opinion: Use only original battery.

Agreed. You spend so much on you camera already. Scrimping on batteries (and risking killing your camera's internal circuits somehow) is something I wouldn't wanna do.

Absolutely agree! Note that "proper, disciplined use" of
these original Nikon lithium ion batteries CAN give you years of trouble-free performance. "Proper, disciplined use"? - One charged battery in bag, the other in camera; end of day, charged one goes into camera, other is recharged (1.5 hrs is all that's needed). Do NOT habitually use these modern lithium ion batteries until they run dry, as that's the wrong way to use them. Same applies to the new generation of notebook batteries. Regards, ---gcm |
