From yr photos, S5Pro grass is more natural looking while D80 makes the grass too green, and S5Pro sky shows more details than the D80. Your photos do show that S5pro is better in dynamic range.

The highlight details in the clouds are better retained in the S5pro..........also shadow detail seems slightly better..........

I hate the green color of grass green from the D80. Reminds me of Kickapoo drink.

well, i would agree that S5 has better range, but we should not forget that the D80 is known to over-exposed by default, so maybe that partly explains the washed out skies..

the DR superiority is as expected.. but is there any gain on D80 in term of sharpness and detail, having bigger effective resolution? Thanks for sharing!

dat would be a closer comparison... however, IMO, the comparison is pretty meaningless (save for those techies among us!). s5pro is a 'specialised' camera, if u happened to read KRW's 'review'. d200, on the other hand, IMO is a jack-of-all-trades camera.
we all know the excellent DR of fuji's DSLR. however, for those familar with nikon DSLRs, working with the NEF files in NC, u can (more or less) achieve the same results. it's just dat fuji helped us by removing a big chunk of PSing. ![]()

D80 image is over exposed.
Set the D80 to EV -0.7 to -1.0 and you should get the sky detail. |

Hi nightwolf75, DR cannot be replaced by PP....if you think by doing PP, you can get the same pic, then you may have mistaken PP and DR. Only in scene when the DR is not that wide can you get the same results with PP. If the scene DR is really wide, a sensor with narrower DR cannot capture all the data available, while a sensor with wider DR can. So if the data is not in the data file right in the beginning, no PP can bring the data in....this is the same mistake many ppl think they can do HDR with a single RAW file by saving into diff exposures (they can just use Dodge/Burn or shadow/highligh to achieve the "HDR" they tot they have achieved). They have forgotten that the RAW data file only captured 12bit of data while it takes about 16bit to qualify as HDR image.
