Default Opinions of the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2

Can anyone share their opinions about this lens?
Am looking for reviews about the performance of the lens.

for constructive talk, no suggestions about other lenses.

It's quite soft wide open, otherwise a sharp lens. Some CA is evident.

bokeh is excellent. sharp enough wide open, but the DOF is so thin that most will be challenged to get it right.

It's makes it very easy to focus though... but I agree it's quite challenging, you have to be quite still, otherwise the focus point will shift if you moved when shooting at f/1.2. I believe the Canon 50/1.0L will be even more challenging..

thanks for the info, not much i can find off the web.
thinking of giving this a try, the 1.8 does not suit my purpose and the 1.4 is quite a letdown.

the dof part would be quite challenging.

Wow. What are you shooting that even the f/1.4 version can disappoint?

I regret selling away mine. It has very good bokeh. I'm thinking of getting another one.

got a job to shoot some stuff at night spots. some stuff got to be discrete where preferably i was told to use no flash, god knows why and how i gonna do it. so i am looking for a really fast lens

so... f1.8 not good enough wide open, can't capture the lights.
f1.4 gave me very strange bokeh or werid lights, the halo light around a person was ridiculous
did some research and came up with the f1.2, and was told that the lens is real soft wide open. hopefully the halo effect would soften up

This is why I bought a significant number of my lenses over there.

You're lucky to be able to travel often to Japan.
