SOS!! company retreat video.

hi everyone! i'm not sure if this thread is in the right place,. but i'm genuinely hoping i can get some help/advice here..

i've been arrowed to be the videographer for my company retreat, which is a 2 day event.

i need to piece together a video of about 10 mins max on the 2nd day.

purpose is to show the audience how they have passed the last 36 hours.. something along that line.

i totally have no idea how i'm gona be filming that.. what do i need to capture?
there will be another colleague who will be incharge of taking photographs.
we will be putting our materials together and come up with the video in approximately 2 hours!!!

we do have a student vendor who is helping with the video editting.. but i seriously need some tips on what to capture during these 36 hours.. and how to play a storyline.

This is where you have to let your creativity flow... Not much that anyone else can help you with.

However if you can, get a list of activities and make a plan from there what you want to shoot. If you have a plan what kind of footage you want, it will make shooting and subsequently the editing much easier.

Shoot anything that moves.. laughts shouts scream or cry..
do interviews every 6hours with 3-4 people..

that should give you alot of footage to choose from :P

No standard way. But if you wanan follow the how documentary are started..
You have the establishing shots first.

Say you are shooting in a resort, we go into a sequence of shots before you go into your random footages..

Resort enterence <6seconds, zoom in - SLOW>

Resort signage <4seconds, zoom in - SLOW>

Resort beach sign <mid shot on the sign and then pan to the beach>

All sorts of random footages. u wont go wrong :P

i really dun wan the video to be a "uh huh.. we did all that in the last 36 hours. so?" kind of video.

honestly 2 hours of video is too long.
got to make every sec count ...
usually nowadays people loose
their attention after 5 mins

Hi Littlepea,

For 10mins, Do a quick intro at the start, a closing scene at the end and in between put in interesting, funny, amusing, romantic or unusual scenes. Keep everything simple. That's all & good luck!

to me it sounds like a highlight..

for the shoot, shoot more on activities and facial expression.. for the opening, not negleting the establish shot that hobbes mentioned .. hmm.. maybe have some shot on the clock showing the diff time if possible, if time is emphasis here..

for post, use fast cut to make it more interesting.. and try cut to the pace of your music if can.. play with speed may be interesting as well.. creativity is all up to you..

yup i think Jensen is right it sounds like highlight of the overall retreat. Best max to be 8mins which is a person's max attention span. Anything more than that I would "call" it a documentary hehehe

So far I'd done many such highlights during my former employments in the govt service and private sector. Bear in mind what's the theme of the retreat that your boss wana bring across to the company. It will roughly give a guide/ idea on the emphasis of what to shoot. The rest are the intro, ambience shots and what Jensen mentioned on the clock etc for the editing part to "play" with.

here's a video that i was engaged to produce sometimes back..
the event was split into 2 days.. each day abt 4hrs +.
total footage shot abt 1hr +/- (cant remember exactly).
edited on the 3rd day and delivered the following day or so..

This is quite some task.
- Do download your clips into your PC/Laptop before the time to edit them.
- Choose the clips you want to show before hand, when your memories are still fresh.
- Try to go closer to you subject instead of zooming in. (This will help reduce the shakes.)
- Use a tripod where possible.
- Take interesting moments like people yawning, digging nose etc...
- Factor in time for rendering of the video.
