Brighter than the human eye!
The Noctilux transmits light more effectively than even the human eye, and as the world's first production f/1.0 lens for 35 mm photography, it represents a landmark in the history of photography. Its outstanding contrast sensitively differentiates subtle colors and its precise resolution displays the finest of textures, even in highly unfavorable light. Maximum correction for aberrations such as coma means that it delivers virtually bleed-free reproduction of point light sources. This lens opens up to photographers a unique and fascinating pictorial language. It is not only outstandingly well suited to shooting in dim light, but also for night shots without flash. The light from a candle is sufficient to produce outstanding results. Specific image areas can be highlighted by means of its very shallow depth of field at full aperture. In the soft-focus zones, this causes outlines to dissolve into an almost abstract aesthetic of shapes and colors. http://www.pictureline.com/images/pd...%20Data_en.pdf . |

Well... perhaps between a long telephoto and this. I might get this as I can see myself making more use of it. But I haven't got the moolah for either. So... No $ No Talk.

Pric is indeed very dear. A few days ago i saw an old Canon 50mm manual lens at Cam-X, was rated f/0.95.

With so much glass and our kind of hot dusty humid weather, the thought of fungus haunts me... To me owning such a fast lens is really the price of oneupmanship.

I believe that lens is FD mount. Canon only manufactured one f/0.95 lens ever, that was the FD 50mm f/0.95 L.

Which, I hear, can give a man a concussion or even kill him, if thrown at the head.

canon 50/0.95 is not SLR FD/EF lens, it is RF lens mount....i think it is leica M mount or LTM...not sharp as M 50/1.0.
leica sharpest 50mm lenses: R 50/2 cron, M50/1.4Asph. |

Well there is an FD mount of the 50/0.95. Found it in the Canon Lenswork book.

Yeah...was the heaviest 50mm lens ever made, close to 1kg.
