Default Group Focus

Hi

I just saw a big ad at the entrance of Tanjong Pagar MRT. There are 4 persons in the poster lined up (horizontal). Only person 1 and 3 is in focus whereas 2 and 4 is slightly blurred. Is this the "group focus" feature found in the D200.

You yourself determine where should be in focus in group shoot, not the camera.

If the adv somehow blurred some persons, there should be a reasons for that adv.

Arto.

If the 4 persons line up horizontally, they should all be in the same focus plane, so if 1 blur, all blur, 1 sharp all sharp. Unless they are not really standing side by side....so the blur may be due to PP...

If the distance of 1&3 to the camera is the same and 2 & 4 is different, it will give this effect. But if they are in a straight line, then it's not quite possible. Group focus of D200 doesn't work like that...

my bad...gota have my eyes checked...on 2nd look, they are all sharp except the last one behind,,,hehe...so sorry...

Btw, what is group focus?

This feature was said to be "missing" from D80 when compared to the D200 which has it.

Perhaps the following link will help you to understand the D200's Multi Cam 1000 AF Module and the group focusing function better.

One of the fancy auto-focus tracking modes...

Even for fast action motorsports I also do not use this mode. there are probably some specialised shooters that find a use for this, but i'm not one of them. heh.

Me too.. I'm a single (centre) area AF user.

Tried to use group a couple of times but don't find a real need for it.. maybe for fast moving stuff where it's hard to get the subject dead centre, the group focus will come in useful because it will use a few area to track the subject (the subject must cover at least 2 AF areas.. I think) then based on some algorithm the camera will determine if the subject has moved into another area and use that area to lock focus instead.
