when u take pics in NEF format, do u guys open nef and work on them directly or covert the images to jpeg? frm waht i searched ard, it seems like the softwares are used to convert nef images than to edit them or as a plugin for photoshop to open them.

there's nikon capture NX which is prob the best software for nikon NEFs...
U can do -a lot- within capture NX on the RAW image. there's a 30 day trial download to try out. |

i use nikon NX.
well... photoshop can open if you have the latest updates. i do not convert the nefs immediately also...

If you want to convert to JPEG first, might as well just shoot JPEG like I do. If you want to retain the bit depth, then you should convert to TIFF if your editing software doesn't support NEF.

usually, i do basic adjustments in NX or Lightroom. then export as TIFF for further editing in Photoshop if necessary.
