Hmm, if you're planning to get everything brand new why don't you wait a bit for the new lenses and camera bodies?

The E-410 will be out in a week or so, the E-510 in a month's time.

The new 12-60mm SWD and 50-200mm SWD should be out in Aug/Sep.

A new wireless flash system is replacing the old flashes, should also be out in Aug/Sep.

Price-wise would probably be close to 5k.

I only want to get a very basic system to go... budget wise it about 2500K or less... is the focusing fast?

what's your comment on the E330? I feel that the ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5
ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mm 1:2.8-3.5
range it good enough...

what is SWD?

E-330 is a very nice camera provided you don't get one that have banding. It's a joy to use and you have the benefit of an articulated LiveView.

You choice of lens are also good. But to keep initial ownership cost low, get the Kit with the 14-45. Wait for the new 50-200mm. But if the screen is not important to you, then ad drakon mention, wait for the new E-410 or the E-510.

Thanks for the information, what is the banding thing?

I wanted to keep my budget around 2500K... can I still get the above mention setup that I wanted? if not I don't get the flash first...I shoot landscape most of rthe time, so the live preview thing can be a bonus thing to me... as I don't have to look into the 90 degree view finder which can be quite a eye sore...

what is SWD?
SWD is the Oly-equivalent of the USM; so focusing will be a lot faster than the older lenses.

The price of the E-330 should plunge upon the release of the new cams.

The 14-54mm costs about SGD750 and the 50-200mm SGD1600 brand new.

The FL-50 is about SGD600.

Maybe it would. Considering that the new E-510 have much more to offer except the articulated LiveView.

Anyway, read through this link banding discussion Don't be put off by this discussion as this banding only affect a small portion of the E-330. Just follow the procedure on how to test for this error. And since you are buying it new, test the camera before paying. If the banding exist, then ask for another unit.

since you said you are doing quite a bit of trekking and stuff, Personally think you should get a used E1 and with the lenses, your setup is weather proof except the flash. Although E1 is a rather old cam with 5mp, I think most of the E1 users here will still vouch for its picture quality. As I don't shoot sports, I don't know if this setup cater for your need.

Also, for trekking, if you use live view, your batt might be draining pretty fast so you might have to revert to the view finder and the E1's view finder I am sure is much brighter and bigger. Having said that, I have notice there are not many CSers selling their E1 over the B&S thread so you may will have to be wait for a while.

Nope. no E-1 for me. The reason for the E-330 is the LiveView. If it's not for the LiveView, I may not have gotten a dSLR in the first place.

Hey Verticoastro, that is quite a nice Canon setup you already got. Got me thinking why you want to make the switch?

Anyway, if you decided not to wait for the E-410/510 and want to get the E-330, I think that the best thing to do is to buy it from US, in which there is a fire sale for the E-330 now at unbelieveable prices.

See here: http://www.adorama.com/IOME330K3.htm...-330&item_no=9

At such a price, you can get it and sell both the kit lenses for at least $300 and then buy the lenses you want. It is cheaper than 2nd hand and you still get Olympus' excellent 1year international warranty.

It is a no brainer for a DSLR with great image quality, I have already got my bro in US to order one to upgrade from his E-300.

I only need one thing more to go with an articulated Liveview: Image Stabilisation...
Then all of those overhead, long range shots in crowded events would be just super, especially when I can move about for better vantages!

Yeah, as Blu suggests, please test out a candidate E-330 by shooting underexposed or at shadowy regions at high ISOs and review the pictures. If you find the severity of the weird stripes (if any) objectionable, ask for another E-330 body. Getting a replacement or having it fixed is far from easy.

Base on your requirement i guess is better off you stay with dual kit lens. Why ? Is because they are lighter to travel with and meets your budget. The plus point of e330 is its articulating lcd as to compare with the upcoming one. In terms of upcoming potential flaws with the new camera we do not know yet. Blu and someothers who encounter banding issues are some serious flaws that not everyone encounter. The new kit lens are smaller but you loose some light in return.
