hi.. erm.. i'm not sure if this is in the right folder but..since there's a panasonic involved..
![]() would anyone like to tell mi the difference between the lx-2 and the dlux3? heard from somewhere that the price diff is literally for that little red dot, cause panasonic manufactures leica cameras now, so there's like no difference anymore. could someone pls share some comments or enlighten mi on anything abt these two? ![]()

i've just done an extensive research on this. and i found out the following:
LX2 & D-Lux 3 are exactly the same camera with a few minor differences. cosmetics: LX2 has a finger rest on the front, and the D-Lux 3 does not. the battery compartment is slightly different. firmware: the D-Lux 3 has a different firmware version. price: the Leica badge costs a fair bit more than a Panasonic Lumix label. the lenses, LCD, menu functions and pic quality are the same. |

I own a d-lux 3, which i bought fully aware of the fact that it is the SAME camera as the significantly cheaper LX-2. I confess that i bought it because of the badge.
However, having used it, there is one real technical difference between the two camera - that is the firmware / software. Essentially both cameras tweaks / processes their pictures differently. Do note that if you compare RAW files, the output will be EXACTLY THE SAME. Being someone who hasn't quite figure out how to master RAW to its full potential, I rely heavily on JPEGS. I also prefer to do minimum tweaking. Therefore, because of my post picture taking preferences, I think D-LUX 3 suits me because the D-LUX 3 in camera processing is better (Note: this is purely a subjective personal view of mine.) At the end of the day, do what works for you. I leave you with a couple of photos taken with the D-LUX 3.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by KLCHUA; 18th April 2007 at 10:22 PM. |

nice pics KLCHUA! i'm still hunting for an LX2, and hoping to buy one soon.
but what you mentioned is true. i too noticed that the sample images i've seen coming from the D-Lux 3 had a slightly more saturated look than the LX2, which seems a little cleaner. somehow i feel like the D-Lux 3 images has a little more film-like qualities. totally subjective opinion of cos. i'm still getting the LX2 becos its cheaper. but if a D-Lux 3 pops up at an affordable price, i might just get it instead. hahah ![]() |

All were resized for the web, of course.
Additionally, some were adjusted only for levels while the rest nothing more. Oh yeah... I think I got it slightly more than 1k. I can't recall exactly how much. |

I just got the D Lux 3 a few weeks ago. It is about $1.1k at Cathay. So far no regrets.
