Fuji F30 & F31fd.. The Face Detection Thing..

Between the 2 cam F30 & F31fd or even F40fd..
Does the F31/F40 with with the Face Detection thing captured
better pic of kids/people/human than the F30?
I only own the F30 and never use a fd cam before..
So anybody here can advise?

Maybe just my old eyes, I tried to turn on and off of the F31fd FD, i just couldn't detect any difference.

You can say that it is just a lazy way to focus on face(s). However, it is good when you want to take a group photo, or when you want to use self timer to take photo of yourself.

fd only in auto modes. If you already have the f30, forget it.

No, i meant the difference the FD would make on my portraits. I shoot in FD on, another without FD, the pictures came out the same(to my failing eyes )

But i guess fd is useful when my wife uses it

Just managed to borrow a F31fd from my colleague to try out..
Well.. can't seem to spot the different with my eye too..
I notice that I have more times of the red AF blinking using the F31fd.
Also sometime green box never appeared and I wait for it to appear
and miss my shot....
Still feel that I use my F30 still faster..
Again, maybe it is just me...

LOL, you can save your money for now then. Hopefully F50fd will make a bigger difference.

tried overriding the FD by pressing the shutter button straight away without any green box(center area focus)?

the FD is good for doing self portraits and when asking ppl to shoot you in the photo. trust me.. it works!

Fyi, the Face Detection feature itself does not improve the image quality. The feature is meant to detect the face of your subject and focus on it. Like what yanyewkay said, very useful on tours when getting ppl to shoot for you. No special skill required.

As quoted in dpreview, it says that F31fd is "producing a noisier, but less processed looking image" than F30... and there are "still some occasional mild exposure and highlight clipping in bright conditions (better than F30 though)" in the conclusion part. Although i haven tested out cuz i dun hav a F30 now

Also, personally i find that the time taken to delete a single picture in F31fd is MUCH FASTER than F30, which to me is a huge plus. I cannot stand the F30 taking 2.5 seconds to do the task whereas F31fd needed only 1 second.

Well... I just want to know the comparison of the 'FD' function.
Other things I don't really care..
