Interesting idea and concept capturing the trails of light on the Aircraft.
But a pity the focusing look out.

Just wondering, did you face any issue with the security?

I think not lar... TS should be standing at the traffic juntion turning into Tanah Merah Coast Rd. Just leave the tripod with the cam on, release the shutter, and find a place to "hide". After 30s, walk back to collect Cam loh... Unidentified Camera on Tripod not as bad as Unidentified Bagage...

Actually, if you guys go on Sundays, usually lesser vehicles around there. And you may have the occasional police cars driving by. I'm sure our friendly neighbourhood policeman will accept our explanation that we're die-hard photographers who are very interested in planes...

Like the Light trails

I was using Manual Focus as lens can't focus itself.
No issue with security. I was on the left side of 02C.

I see. Very good attempt and inspiring concept.
Just some thought for discussion, maybe a slight shorter focal length (shoot wider) and small aperture might help with the focusing.
Thanks for sharing.

I think it's resized quite badly, too many jaggies. Could have left the lamp post out of the shot. Tungsten lighting will create a strong cast on the overall picture and just dampens the overall impact of the shot. It does work at times but I don't think it did this time. A poorly composed image, imo.

Technically, I don't think this is a very good shot either. Too much motion blur and way too soft for my liking.

Lamp post could not be out. We (myself and my school Photography Society) frame the image the way we want. You may really want to try it out yourself. If I did not crop the image there will be a group of trees with movement un-freeze and a freaking DEAD pixel or dust. I had tried blow off. I think it needs to visit HarbourFront.

It was already on manual focus.

I have tried a similar shot before. You may frame the image "the way we want" but since this is a discussion group, there will be other opinions aired and if you can't take that, I suggest you don't post your image here for critique. Besides, how's a clump of blurred trees going to affect a shot that is already marred with soft lines and jaggies? Wouldn't make it any worse, or better, imo.

Personally, I would be embarassed to show an image that is so full of jaggies due to a poor crop and resize. Bulb exposures on a digital sensor will very likely yield dead pixels... and the difference between dust and dead pixels is quite visually apparent.

No one is perfect and everyone is learning.
I feel that Threadstarter already done what he could and share with the rest some interesting concept of capturing aicraft light trails.
Technically and composition-wise, there are rooms for improvement.
Before clicking that "Submit Thread/Reply" button, I hope that viewers can understand where is the Threadstarter coming from and similarly I hope that TS can understand some of the suggestions that is proposed by other viewers so that there can be improvement.

Hi jeromevo,

You are Welcome. Learn what is wrong this time or analyse how you can further improve on this shot, keep trying and experimenting and I believe you will get what you want.
No one is born with great skills, but everyone has to start somewhere. Take some of the comments with a pinch of salt once a while and don't be discourage. Keep shooting and enjoy photography, that is what is all about. Cheerz.

hmm.. hello ma****'s friend. i'm sure you went with some photog teacher during this outing and should have pointed this out to you. but no worries photog is a continuous learning experience.
focusing with the sigma can be a pain in the ass some times. so in these kinda conditions, i suggues that u try to lock your focus on the lamp post. seeing that your cam is the 30d, and shooting at manual the pics should turn out great. maybe you should try shooting at f16/18 and the exposure will be nice. but thats my opinion.
but honestly, this shot didnt grasp me the moment i saw it.
first impressions were that the lines were jaggy and lighting from the lampost was abit too harsh for this shot. but oh well.. you can always improve.. hope to see more shots from you

i've shot that area before. not so jia lat u must put tripod there then go hide.. walked from changi safra to changil village abt 10.6km. taking pics along the way.. until i got sian and tired.. from walking... no airport security stopped us or anything of that matter neither did the police..
the only time the police stopped us was because we were walking 5 abreast on the road. talked **** with him for a while and he let us go...

CHEERS!
