Default Slik Pro 330DX

I've gotten an equote for the tripod and it's $132 w/o gst.
Bag will cost me another $10.
Is that a good price?

yes its not too bad. u can sell the head for another $30-$40. then get a manfrotto 486rc2 ballhead if you prefer a ball head.

2nd hand 330DX will prob go for around $80. but im not sure how easy it is to find one

Thanks Isaiah!
This is my first tripod purchase and I'm taking it as a long term investment.
I saw on the forum the other day that a 190Xprob & a 486rc2 will cost $245.
Heard so many good things abt Manfrotto that makes me wonder if I should pay extra $100 for the combination or should I stick to $140 for the Slik tripod.
My other concern is the weight.
I'm worried that the Manfrotto legs + ballhead may be too heavy for me. *sigh*

Spend a bit more and get a Carbon Fibre tripod then. The Velbon series is also quite good.

well the specs are similar. 190xb and 330dx both are rated to hold 5kg. i use the 330dx myself and have found it great for travelling. it's light and easy to carry around.

in fact i know someone who uses a 400D + 70-400/4L + canon 20-22 + sigma 18-50 and uses a Slik 340DX which is even lgihter and smaller than the 330DX. the 340Dx is a 4 section tripod and is shorter when folded. so far, he hasnt had problems with it.

best...go down to CP and try it out yourself (;

the only bad points i find on my 330dx is that it is pretty low without extending the center column (if you spread out the leg)
but the weight is (only about 1.5kg with ballhead), and no problem supporting me d50+80-200+sb600.

I paid $120 for mine late last year at CP.
Yeah, it's pretty low but the one thing I like most about it is the weight.
It's very light so I bring it along for shoots where I have to walk around a lot.
Or for my macros since I seldom have to extend the centre column as most of the subjects are below my eye level.
The centre column is so thin I just hate looking at it.
For everything else I use my C-257 Benro.

Hmm...it seems like you guys all voted for 330DX.
So I guess I can't go wrong.
Like Isaiah said, think I better bring down my camera+macro lens to try it!
