How to get correct Gamma

Without and HARDWARE monitor calibrations tools, is there any way to ensure that you get the correct Gamma setting .... etc so as not to get over exposed pictures?

check histogram while editing

It's not just gammaa because monitor calibration curves are more complex than just a single curve.

looks like we have same problem, have u try adobe gamma?
ru using windows or mac?
