Do you think Free N Easy is feasible for Africa?

Which part of Africa are u talking about? In South Africa is ok, but be careful of the security there, not very safe. U'll see guards carrying Ak-47 in chinatown (just one small stretch).

Botswana can. But a very boring place.

yes if u know where to wander safely. but you have to be specific which part of africa.
cape town is generally. joberg, you have to watch your back if you walk down the streets.
other parts, i am not sure. hope it helps.

oh if u wanna go safari, there is one famous safari...called kruger but a bit commercialised. people say kenya is better.

    Thanks guys.

Sorry, forgotten to specify. It should be South Africa.

I'm still in the midst of planning the itenary. Cape Town and Jonannesburg looks like a must go place. Safari wil be interesting for me too. Hmm! Kenya....will checkout more on website.

Oh Ya! Is the transportation easy there?

If want to go free and easy, rent a car there, I dare not take their public transport. Cape town is a nice place. Maybe you can consider Jo'berg and petoria. In Jo'berg don't flash your expensive equipments around especially in the night. One of my colleague got the car robbed in front of the hotel carpark. The guy point a sub machine gun at him.

Dont use public transport there. If u want to go free and easy, and dun bring much money and no camera, you can try hitchhiking.

Joberg is not a very safe place in my opinion unless you join those tour group where they will put u up in the sun city hotel, something like sunway lagoon architecture but more grander. If you have a local friend that it is ok. But what is there to see in Joberg apart from Museum? Please excuse me, maybe there is more to see there but I simply got no guts to walk down Joberg alone.

My take is you rent a car, go for the garden route on the way to cape town. If you can go to drakensberg, all the better, very nice mountain.

Lastly have a safe trip. Not to scare you, but I heard you need to drive to get to point A to B even though its a short distance. Never wander into a slum area, where there are gangs. Even the police will not enter there.

One more thing to note if you are driving. Never stop at any traffic lights when there are no cars around especially at night in Jo'berg.

Look like I have to seriously consider group tour. Cos I will be travelling with my wife. But I really hate group tour ......remind me of Army days. Must be here at what time....blur blur blur..... But safety is important.

I remmenber I once join a day tour to Blue Mountain in Sydney. I was left behind becos i'm late for the meeting time.

Hmm...just to let u in on something...if u follow tour group, i think the standard package would be to stay at sun city, 2 game drive (this is not enough if you want to really 'hunt' down the animals, tour around cape town (table mountain, camp bay, signal hill and so on) and would set u back around 3K+ per person.

Its basically like a touch and go thing...anyway......all the best for your trip.
