best to go for the 350D... . 2 mp difference is not much. Morever, 400D does suffer from underexposure issues...

If you like the hobby, u fill feel slightly better with a newer body(just personal opinion) If you don't like the hobby, you can get a better resale value on a newer body

hmm... not sure about that... I did quite some research a few months back before i got my 350d and all the sites say very little to no diff in terms of noise and image quality... no mention about AI as well.... care to share where you got your info?
they did say however that 400d's cmos is less sensitive and will underexpose when compared to the 350d at the same iso, aperture and shutter speed.... also, found out from some threads here in CS that the cleaning system of the 400d is close to useless.... this and the fact that it's cheaper made me go with the 350d.... the price diff can buy you an ef 75-300mm and filters |

i'd go with the 400D..
not that the 10MP will make a difference.. but i like the 9-pt AF sensor.. which i find has a better layout than the 7-pt in the 350D.. It's known to underexpose a bit, but that can be solved by overexposing slightly all the time..not that troublesome.. my only gripe? it doesn't have a separate lcd for settings...

There are a few features that you make want to take note: Firstly, 400D has cross sensor which the 350D doesn't. What this means is that 400D is able to focus faster and more accurately. Furthermore with the cross sensor, it allows faster support if you are using a f2.8 or larger lens. Secondly, it has my Picture Style function. It allows one to adjust color, sharpness and saturation to his/her own liking. With my old 350D i had to spend more time on post processing every picture as compare to the 400D. Thirdly, the LCD of 400D is of much better quality compared to 350D. Furthermore I am able to view my picture in easily bright sunlight while i have some difficulties with my 350D.

its kinda troublesome to bring the camera down to canon to have it calibrated..looks like many of the people here chose 400D to 350D..personally after reading all the info i've collected also looks like not much of a diff as the megapixel quality i'm not so particular about it. so maybe i should seriously consider 400D instead of 350D.. btw im a true canon support..haha.. all of my camera are canon's. IXUS i, IXUS 55, and soon to have a canon dSLR. but i still need some convincing to part with the 300 bucks in difference. 300 bucks i can get a crumpler camera bag. =p and some loose change to get a cheapo flash..

and also its not that the 400d underexpose, is that canon underrated the ISO standard of 350d its actually about 1/4-1/3stops more sensitivity than 400d any most other dSLR models last but not least, newer batches should be affected by the "underexposing" becos of the poor QC in the focusing screen or something Last edited by ExplorerZ; 11th April 2007 at 12:06 AM. |

Is 350D still for sale anywhere?
Is there any cheap prices since it is an old model? I am thinking of getting the 350D as it is cheaper and don't need the 10meg, nor the improved AF (thinking of just mounting a 10-22mm) + the monochrome LCD display is very useful and save battery. The ISO performance of the 350D seems better too. |
