Thanks a lot. You'd save me a lot of time.

Maybe I should get Kenko 25mm extension

wonder if it'll be as dark as normal extension.

Also going to try get a 2x macro converter

I have not try it on K10D, dim maybe due to Canon small finder. For Pentax accessories it hard to find here. another place to look for is ebay.

The tube is aluminium, or brass, some metal piece made from China. I think the principle isthe same even if the brand is pentax.. I mounted onto K10 D and put f1.4 50 mm pentax and I am able to take ants in M mode. Tripod is needed and I don't have a tripod yet. Anway I don't know how to post yet..he he.he.. still learning. Born dinasour period. No problem in removing it as there is a pin to push back.

Thanks a lot for the info

As for posting here's what you do.

1. Find a free image hosting site like photobucket, imageshack, etc.
http://photobucket.com/ (I'm using photobucket, so I'll use it as example.)
2. Register with them & login.
3. After login, create a sub album;
In the space beside create button, type in the name of the album & press Create.
4. After creating you'll see a blue link with the sub album name, go and double-click it.
5. Press the browse Button & locate the jpg file you want to post.
If more than one, continue adding on each space beside the Browse button/double-click add more.
6. After you upload, you'll see the thumbnail of the photo with 3 lines beside it.
7. Highlight the line begining with [img] & a Copied yellow tag appears (If not you'll need copy it.)
8. Paste the line you had copied when you post in forum.
the line you had pasted with start with

Hope this will help

wow, 1:1 is not large enough ah? You want 3:1

I got an extension tube from ebay few months ago, my opinion is: very hard to use!

with the extension tube, the focusing function of original lens will almost usless, you can only adjust the focusing in a very short range. most of the time, you have to move the camera to focus.

To get the max magnification from the lens, you need to move the camera rather than turning the focusing ring I'm used to taking >1:1 with Raynox, so it's not really a problem.

Some shots taken with S9500 & DCR250

Bro, it is very difficult to achieve 3X magnification using extension tubes alone. I should know as I have the Pentax Auto Extension Tube Set K.

First, you need to understand the effect of an extension tube. When attached, 2 things happen:
1) The lens you use can focus closer than its minimum focusing distance but it cannot focus at infinity.
2) There will be light falloff reaching the sensor/film plane. How much light is lost varies according to the focal length of the lens.
Eg. Let's take a 25mm extension tube. Use it on a 200mm lens and you'll get approx 1/8 life size. Using the same tube on a 50mm will give you 1/2 life size, with a correspondingly higher amount of light loss.

Obviously, the larger the extension added, the greater the magnification but the distance the light has to travel to reach the sensor/film plane increases = longer exposures. By inference, to achieve 1:1 magnification with a 50mm lens, you'll need 50mm of extension. To get the same magnification on a 200mm lens, you'll need 200mm of extension. The good thing about using extension tubes with a longer focal length lens is the larger working distance.

>1:1 macros are never easy. Even when using raynox, my working distance between the subject and lens is only around 10cm+- You'll need 2 diffused flash to get anything decent in low light. Yes it's really hard, that's what makes macros appealing to me

If ext tube is not enough, I may resort to filter too.
